Not quite the same but I’ve had a 2017 F82 M4 Comp for a couple of months now. Never loved a car like I do this. I’ve had reasonably quick BMWs before (it’s predecessor was a 2017 540i X drive) but this is completely different. Incredibly quick, the acceleration never seems to slow down. But unlike most cars I’ve owned you can’t just floor the throttle and forget about it. In the current conditions it’ll happily wheel spin at 60. But to be honest I love that as after 2 months I’m still learning the car and getting a bit more out of it each time. Whereas previous cars after an hour or two I was driving them as quickly as I was ever going to.

It’s one of those cars even driving a couple of miles into town I look forward to it because it means I get to drive it.

Hopefully you love yours too!

Great car did 90,000 miles in mine over 3 years, never missed a beat and drove as well on the last day I had it as it did over the 1st mile, strong car.

Ah cool, what colour did you get yours in? I was initially going for the m4 in yas marina blue but then came across a sakhir orange m3 comp with CS wheels and just couldn't say no, will share some pics after collection!

I’m not as cool as you mate! Mine is mineral grey. I fancied that or black then in the flesh preferred the grey.

I’m looking at several 2015-17 M3 (non comp) that are for sale right now. Little nervous of if it’s a terrible time to buy, prices seem to be strong at the minute but hey ho!

I keep looking at these and keep thinking…

Currently have a 66 plate 335Xd saloon and a 130i LE.

Would just an E80 M3 manual be the best of both worlds as one all-rounder?

I love my 130i for just going out on my own and doing odd jobs, using all revs and heel and toe etc.
Love the 335Xd for family duties and stuff.

But then life is short and it’s very very rare we’re using both cars.

There is a nice manual locally I might go look at… but it’s not really the time of year to be ‘trying one out’
Even my 130i is finding the current roads unusually greasy.

A great all-rounder, drove 2015/65 F80 daily for 2 years (25k) and loved it. Remarkable levels of performance, comfort and BMW dealers don't charge a fortune to maintain them.

The only negatives that I recall - a bit twitchy in the wet, raspy exhaust note, keyless entry with no obvious place to put the keys, crap navigation (later cars probably have Apple CarPlay).

Pretty much this smile It’s a lovely car to drive, the theatre of the M is just so addictive - sounds great, looks fabulous, what’s not to like…

Overall it’s a great car. I only sold as I couldn’t live with the tyre noise, coming from a m6gc. A mpe is a must, really brings it to life and was twitchy on wet roads, but fun. The tech and build were fine, but trying the g80 it seems to have moved on two generations.
Still miss mine but needed more comfort and space.

Same and I absolutely love mine too. They are such a great all round performance car I reckon.

I've only done 6k miles in the M4 up to yet, but I've loved every one of them though. It took me far too long to get a car with the S55 engine I reckon, and the engine is an absolute peach I think. I never took to the S65 engine in the E92 M3, but I absolutely love the S55 in comparison.

I bet that you got through plenty of fuel doing 30k miles a year in that though!

Indeed Lee, I think it was actually less than 3 years around 32 months that I clocked up that mileage, serviced every 6 months and lots of fuel receipts, S55 was such a strong engine IIRC I only had to put 1 extra litre of oil in over that period and mileage outside of servicing.

I really liked that car went all over, including the continent in it rather than flying to conferences, here it is in good company at the hotel in Kent before tackling the French auto routes and German ABs and at arrival, I think doing decent miles in a car and long journeys makes you bond with them.

It looks awesome mate! thumbup

I love the way the F80 M3 sits over the rear arches, so cool I reckon.

This is the one I picked up a couple of days ago, already have a light on for Tyre Pressure Monitor (RDC) failure but other than that I actually love it!

I liked the one I drove and it was better than I thought it would be. I can see how they would be a great daily driver.

The first car I've driven in a while that I thought didn't need any more power. What did BMW quote as a power figure for these originally? 425 BHP? Wouldn't surprise me if that was wheel horse power they're quoting there. It felt much more like 500 bhp.

I found the drivetrain quite dull and unrewarding compared to my manual E90 though. S65 is a much more pleasurable engine to rev out than S55, I thought. Noise-wise, absolutely no comparison. DCT gearbox seemed to compound the dullness as well.

Brakes were decent and the rear feels more tied down than a standard E90/E92 probably because the subframe is bolted directly to the chassis now.

Better chassis than a stock E90/E92 though which already had a pretty decent chassis. Only thing was that it felt up on tippy-toes a little bit, almost like it was a bit oversprung but it gets better with speed. I think they would be really good track cars with a couple of minor tweaks.

I'd say you'll be happy. smile

I personally preferred the chassis on the E92 M3, and I don't like how the subframe is bolted directly to the chassis on the F82 M4, because for me it makes it feel too nervous and it is too stiff for my liking on the road. I'm not saying that the F8x cars have a poor chassis, but it definitely takes some getting used to I reckon. As you say great on a smooth track though, not so great on a bumpy B-road.

I always knew where I stood in the E92 M3, whereas I don't as much in the F82 M4. The brakes are far better on the M4 though for me.
