Changing a kit-car components.
Discussion
At what point would a kit-car have to be re-registered due to changing parts?
I'm considering changing the Marina B engine in my Marlin Roadster to a 5 bearing MGB lump so that suitable upgrades can be made. That would be mated to a stronger & better gearbox such as a Ford Type 9 (or another BL 'box with an overdrive) and then the rear axle would need to be changed for a stronger diff such as a Ford Seirra, Capri etc...
Obviously the DVLA need to know about the engine number change, but would changing the 'box & axle need to be annouced? If they did would that consitute having to re-register it?

Surely the easiest way of achieving this would be to buy a rusted out MGB and use it's engine, box & axle, you may even recoup some of your cash by selling the interior etc.
Oh, and I agree with the others!
It would be, but the tranmission tunnel is too narrow for the MGB 'box so would have to be modified making the cockpit even smaller (not something I plan on doing). The rear axle of the MGB will handle the power I plan to put through it nicely (about 90bhp or so) but I'm not sure on width etc.
Not an immediate thing, in fact my plans suggest just buying a new car altogether (new engine, 'box, rear axle, suspension upgrades, new wiring loom, new seats, carpet & dash...)
