Hi guys, can anyone point me in the direction of a decent code reader/ scanner for a 2005 330i? I’d like something that can read and reset fault codes as well as reset service indicators and potentially minor coding for batteries etc…

Obviously the best thing to get would be a standalone laptop/cable and software (ISTA-D and ISTA-P), but I don’t have a spare laptop knocking about and I’m not convinced my computer skills are up to it, hence looking for a simpler device…

Any recommendations and experiences welcome.

Cheers

I use Carly.

Not the cheapest solution now it has an annual subscription, but it’s really easy and convenient working off the phone app. Mine has saved more more than its cost me.

+1

Has been essential for my E91/E46/E63 and E70!

EDIT: Sorry, no coding options, if that's what you're after. If you need that - Carly.

Carly or Bimmercode for a mobile app (you'll need the relevant dongle for Android and iOS; they're different) - great for coding and reading error codes etc

Creator C310 for codes

Autophix 7910 for codes and other things, but it doesn't do a lot of coding IIRC

Cheers guys,

When I mentioned coding, I meant to be able to change batteries etc…

Personally I'd buy the Autophix 7910; it's c£100 on Amazon with the discount selected and it's been a great tool.

I've got Carly & my pals got the Autophix; I've used that more than Carly!

It's plug n play and works really well and lets you code & register new batteries etc; but it's a handy tool to have in if you do get any error lights etc

Probably worth getting a code reader like C310 ( I have a C110) but on a 2005 3 Series you don't need to code a new battery.

That’s good news, not managed to fully figure out the menus etc yet, I assume it’s the older iDrive so has less functionality than the later cars (it’s a late 2005 build 330i)
