I'm currently in the process of having my garage built and considering what to do for washing cars. I would really like a way of having purified water to stop water spots. Is something like this the best option? I'm thinking I could plumb it in with valves to turn it on/off from normal water. I could then do the final rinse with it.

I didn't want water going through the garage, so I've bought one of these

Same concept, and pleased to report it does what I want it to. TDS meter showed a drop from 0.494 to 0.002 and a quick test on bodywork shows it works.

I don't see why your proposed solution wouldn't work.

I've been using an aquagleam for last few years. I only get about 18 months of use out of each though so it's not the cheapest option but it does work.

When I build my new garage I'm going to consider a water butt arrangement I think. I like the idea of putting rain water to good use. I guess I'll need a pump too.

Include a filter before another water butt and then have your jetwash take straight off the clearer water butt. Most jet wash these days will work from a water butt.

Recently bought one of these mainly for our windows but can be used for car washing too.

This is my answer for spotless washing as you really need a decent resin volume to ensure the water is demineralised, the smaller units just can't handle hard water.
