Shipping car in a container, UK to Canada (Calgary)

Has anyone here done this before?

Who did you use, or what process did you follow to get it over?

Vehicle is over 15 years old (manufactured 1996), so is admissible under those terms.

I'm wary of un-trustworthy companies, for example shipcars.co.uk when I looked into their Companies House records haven't filed regular returns and the directors have changed and been operators of a couple of similar organisations with the same kinds of company records!


Also, who have any of you USA guys used from the UK to ship a vehicle in a container please? Looking for firms that have been tried and tested.

why are 90% of the cars 90s regular polos and golfs?

Ironically I’ve done it the other way round ie Calgary to UK!
I used Golden Chariots but I don’t know if they do uk > Canada but they could advise no doubt.
If I remember rightly it went by train (nr Calgary), across canada to the port and then shipped by container. All completely unmarked.

Look at which port you'd use. Halifax is cheaper, but you'd still have huge land transport after that. Vancouver is closer, but again. still there's a 1000km transport (or drive) to Calgary. That would be around $2k+ for local transport company to do. RoRo from the UK (Southampton) to Halifax is reasonable, but depends how much risk you're wanting to take.

Since this is PH, what car is it?

My first car, '96 Corsa, owned for 21years.

Just shipped my car from the UK to Charleston. We used RoRo as the containers are unobtanium right now. It's been on the dock for weeks as they can't get a transporter. Finally got one last week, he couldn't start the car ('57 Plymouth, probably out of gas and the fuel pump lost prime) and had no winch. Trying again next week.

I have had time to get planning and build a garage since it left the UK. The world of shipping has more or less run aground.

Stumbled across this old thread.... I ended up shipping it RORO and having 8-10 very stressful weeks whilst it crossed the globe, got delayed, and more scarily, got driven by multiple different people! BUT, it arrived, as I sent it, and now, 3 years after it landed, I've still not got around to getting it inspected and registered for road use over here. It does look good under a cover in the garage though! lol

Got a couple looks as i drove it from house to house after a couple moves though.

Great thread update! Why not complete registration though?
