Black Spitfires?
Discussion
Hey there!
I've only just stumbled across the exciting possibility of getting myself a spitfire as I had no idea the insurance was so reasonable!
I'm of a tender age, and determined to drive something different, without paying the ransom for it in insurance!! :D
I've seen a few photos of Black spitfires, but wondered how rare are they? or more specifically - how obtainable are they??
Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks alot
Jack

Not seen many black Spits, though it was an official colour apparently. A useful source of Triumph info is the Club Triumph forum
They are fun cars - good luck finding one!

I think black was an early colour (code 11). The 1500 wasn't done in black and I don't think the MKiv was either.
Get the book Triumph Spitfire and GT6 A guide to Originality by John Thomason.
It has virtually everything you need to know in there.
Later Spitfires from 1975/78 on tended to be in louder colours such as Java Green, Magenta, Vermillion (the colour of my one), Inca Yellow, and Pageant blue.

I felt the same way. My first car was a Spitfire Mk III in pale yellow. I absolutely loved every minute of the whole driving experience, it was such fun. Unfortunately, it was in a worse condition than I had realised and since I couldn't afford the cost of the repair work (still studying at College), it had to be scrapped
Now I have a Tiv which brings me the same pleasure. There's just something about the sound, smell, styling and feel of open top sports cars.
Good luck in finding one
