I am surprised Biden hasn't already made it even easier for them and handed them the keys to a brand new one. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-6014848...

It was during landing. Apparently the arrestor wire failed.

Based upon what?
probably 10 year old articles about it being annoying to manufacturehttps://www.defensenews.com/smr/hidden-troubles-f3...
And I well remember the original concept being sold as a generic easy to adapt robust plane that would be far easier and cheaper to make and fly than the F22.
Which has been a laughable claim for many years.

There's an interesting thread (edited to add : UK f35 pilot eject thread) in the planes subforum that talks about the f35 in more detail and by people with more knowledge. Why don't you post your claims in that subforum/thread?https://www.defensenews.com/smr/hidden-troubles-f3...

To which someone replied "why"
And I answered. ITT as it only seemed polite.
I've never quite understood the whole race to recover thing, I appreciate it makes me seem a bit dense....
China trying to recover it before the USA does is surely just an outright act of espionage. Why wouldn't the US just issue a statement to them saying "leave it alone! It is ours and we will recover it. Do not attempt to recover it yourselves"? Surely no other nation would view this as unreasonable to do?
I do realise that the world isn't that simple and no nation wants to be seen as being aggressive, but this situation always seems odd to me somehow.
