I am just looking for opinions from owners on these. Real world economy, how do they drive etc?

I do about 20k miles a year and I do like the Focus. However I don’t know if it would be the most sensible option. 90% of the time I am on my own on the motorway.

I currently have an old A3 diesel it’s still going well but getting a bit tired and it’s done 173k.

I do like the looks and idea of something a bit sporty. But being honest a few modern toys and a big fuel range (over 500 miles to a tank ideally) are higher up on my list. It is the previous shape I was considering as well not the newest one. Thanks.

The ST 185D is a very good car & will do exactly what want & if you're doing 20k a year it'll be a good companion.

Another good alternative is the Q30 Sport it's the same car as a Mercedes A220cdi AMG Line apart from the sheet metal & you'll get a nice low mileage one in budget:

Most Golfs we see in the workshop also have ACC fault on the dashboard, if its not that then its the AFS fault.

I'd go with the Focus

Thank you for all the links! I had never even considered the infinity. They look quite nice. Another alternative could maybe be a Lexus hybrid?

The golf gtd is a nice car but would I be wrong in thinking it’s a bit boring: numb to drive just like my A3?

That’s why I fancy a ST but maybe I should edge more towards comfort then sporty?

If you do 18k p/a on motorways, the main concern here would be comfort I think. I'd be after something a bit more executive/bargey than a warm diesel hatch personally.

Touch screen infotainment drove me nuts on mine. Was so glad to see it go.

Make sure you split properly in the bucket seats. They can be tight if you are a bit large.

19 inch wheels mean harsh ride.

Engine is good, much power. Plenty fast enough. 50mpg easy.

It depends on your budget with the IS300h to get a decent low mileage one.

We’ve had Focus ST diesels for the past six years and just paid off the pcp on the second one and are keeping it. The first did 52k and the current one is on 46k. No major problems at all although both have had faulty tyre sensors over the years. Overall consumption is around 44mpg, quite happy with that as my wife is a home carer doing lots of stop/start driving. The ride is obviously quite hard but not enough to bother us. Great, reliable all round cars, we’ve done lots of euro and long distance UK trips in both.

I was intent in paying off the balloon on ours until WBAC offered us stupid money for it.

It’s been swapped for a TTS now which is an absolute missile in comparison.

I'd take a good hard look at a 125D BMW. Great cars, perfect for what you're wanting.
