Unlocking the boot

I don't know if I am just being thick but I can't get into the boot on my Virage when the car is locked. The owners manual implies that you press the boot release button on the remote then press the boot lid button.
When I press the boot release button the brake lights come on but the boot lid button does nothing so I have to unlock the whole car to get into the boot.
The owners manual also says 'refer to personalisation, page 2.16' but there is nothing about book locking/unlocking in the personalisation options.
The owners manual also says that if the boot is left open, e.g. to charge the vehicle, the deadlocking, tilt and interior movement sensors will not operate but twice now I have set the alarm off by leaning in through the open window. Most of the time it doesn't though.
I am also pretty sure I hear the deadlocks engage 30 seconds or so after locking the car with the boot open.

My car is a Vantage (with glass key), but I presume it will have the same arrangement as your Virage.
When my car is locked, I can press the key button for boot release and the boot lid opens slightly.
Thinking about this, a first press does make the lights flash (think indicator lights), but then a second press is needed to release the boot lid.
When on charger, with the boot lid held slightly open with a folded cloth, I think the rest of the car might be locked. Certainly the mirrors fold when pressing the lock button, even though the boot is ajar.
When I owned my Rapide, I struggled to unlock the boot with the little button on the tailgate. Transpires it has no seal around it, my local garage took it apart, and it was very damp. Cleaned it all up, dried it out and it worked again. I made sure I kept my jet washer away from the button.
The button on the boot works fine when the car is unlocked so I don't think there is anything wrong with it.
If I press the boot release button on the fob the brake lights come on, if I press it again they switch off. Pressing the button on the boot multiple time while the brake lights are on does nothing.

While I am on the subject of fobs, I noticed that the graphics on the buttons on the Crystal Key are luminous the other day!
I walked into my bedroom with the light off and put the key down then realised the buttons were glowing.
I wondered if this was battery powered but when I checked later it had stopped glowing so I shone my phone torch on it for a few seconds and it started glowing again.
No idea why you would need that feature but it is pretty cool!

Yes, they don't glow as much as high-end watches, but it is a neat touch. It is something that the industry has been doing for a while, as well for TV remotes.I walked into my bedroom with the light off and put the key down then realised the buttons were glowing.

It's a feature that I find really helpful. We live out in the sticks where it is pitch black at night. When I walk the 20 yards or so from front door to garage, that little bit of lume really helps, as I can never remember whether top left or top right is unlock!I walked into my bedroom with the light off and put the key down then realised the buttons were glowing.
