Advise please: Email press releas

I'm currently sorting out a press release for a charity event I'm doing.

Whats the best way to send this in email form? Anyone got experience of this?

1) A Brief introduction/request and then the press release attached in a word doc.

2) A brief introduction/request and then the press release attached in a pdf (can they extract that?

3) The acutal press release in the email text (i.e: no attatchments)

a breif introduction, and then the text in the email itself. don't use attachments.
