When we look at values it is sometimes theoretical appreciation that we see, especially if we bought something because we wanted to own it.
I think AML have owned their series of registration marks for a very long time. Bamford and Martin were also keen on AM registrations, even causing confusing to later historians, because their marks seemed to move between cars. Wonder if transfers were formal arrangements in the 1920s? -
I have some good registrations, bought decades ago for 'peanuts'. Said to be valuable now, but rather like AML's, not of a real value, because not for sale. Hence my reference to theoretical appreciation.
Got to agree. Had this same conversation with a mate last week who’d just bought a personal plate. He was saying that he wasn’t sure how much of a good investment it was, I asked him when he was ever likely to sell it. Never was the reply.

The trouble with DBS 1 is that the value is limited by being model specific - it would look completely wrong on a DB9 etc.
Have you considered the great number of David Brian Smiths, Don Bruce Smiths etc, various other people with DBS initials, even DBS Wealth Management might have some loose change ready to buy. Huge demand for trinkets like this, especially number ones.
