Tried the Skyflake, Omitawari and Sky Dweller.

Sky Dweller very impressed. At the edge of what I can wear size wise. Wouldn’t choose that combo. Omitawari was a disappointment. It’s tiny, very thin. Sky flake is the next purchase, the face isn’t quite as nice but I like the power meter (I’m odd) and the movement on display with a modicum of water resistance seals it.

First world problems. Obviously.

The Sky Dweller is an exceptional bit of design and engineering.

None of the above. Assuming a 25k pot, then I'd prefer a https://www.chrono24.co.uk/vacheronconstantin/fift...
or https://www.chrono24.co.uk/patekphilippe/patek-phi...

I'd agree the Rolex isn't worth anything more than list. The Grand Seiko's are £5250 and £7200 IIRC.

I love the Grand Seikos, and a friend of mine just bought himself a Snowflake, so I am looking forward to seeing it in the flesh.

The Skydweller is very clever, but very ugly, in my view, but that's clearly a matter of opinion, of course.

I sort of agree with that. I really wanted the Omitawari, but it's really like a toy, perhaps I am not really thinking the right way but I do like a slightly thicker watch. It's got an amazing detail though. Personally the power meter defines Grand Seiko, it also has a lot of very nice details. The Rolex is, for me, ugly beautiful. It was my first time with the Sky Dweller and I thought I'd not like it, or the colour combination. However, it's grown on me. A bit OTT, but the engineer in me really appreciates the details inside. For now, the gold/stainless is unloved, I do wonder if this will change?

I really appreciate pretty much everything about Grand Seiko. They are so superbly engineered, they are (IMO) totally unpretentious. It's a very cool choice, I think.

You might enjoy this article which goes into some detail about the 211:

Good read, thanks!

They look good on other straps, generally fly under the radar.

Quite like the Seiko’s

‘Spring Drive’ would put me off though. Why ruin the faces with that !

They’re (justly) very proud of the technology.

At least it's not the paragraph that's scrawled across that mess of a Skydweller...

A lot of Skydweller hate here. Let me balance that out a bit - in the right colour and metal I think they're lovely.

What about the GS White Birch.

The detail on the dial is amazing and very under the radar.

yes

The gold/steel one is growing on me. I do like the blue face, but I cannot justify it really.

I definitely prefer it like that with the white dial, but it is still WAY too 'busy' for my liking. Very clever, though.

Agree with you on that, I do prefer the case of the Skyflake overall though. And I am a sucker for the blue tint. It's not a major factor but literally nobody I know owns one, it's not a money issue as some of my friends have super high end watches. I think the lack of perceived kudos for a 'Seiko' kills GS in the market. There is another blue face GS...but it's a bit out of budget (SBGZ007)

I really didn't like the white birch, too silvery in the metal for me.

My mate had a skyflake but never bonded with it. Its sort of not dressy and not sporty, not slim but not chunky. Too precious feeling to wear casual at the weekend.

Definitely added to the list.
