nasty, nasty stuff.. however I would hesitate to label it as a racially motivated attack (as the beeb described it) unless the police know something we don't...what a horrific tragedy though

Hmm.........scousers who forgot to take their 'calm down' medecine.

I used to have a client whose sister, 6 month pregnant, was beaten to death by her BF (unproved but he had history and ended up being murdered himself).

The world is a very sick place.

To be fair, its because these two are from late last year and this one is current news, but see where your coming from.

Its sad what can happen to you just because of the colour of your skin.

Utterly attrocious. I personally would pull the trigger on the perpetrators of this without hesitation.

These murderers deserve to be tortured to death for this.

Right, brutal murders are one thing, but to label them as "racist" or not is something entirely different. It doesn't matter if one person killed the other because he didn't like the color of the other person's skin, or because he didn't like the other person's hair. Someone ended up dead, as in a brutal manner. The whole "racism" argument should be left alone and the person punished for killing someone with an axe.

The sad thing is, though, that two people can get very different sentences based on whether or not the defendent can be accused of some sort of insensitivity.

Britain has become a place now where Kids kill for "Fun".

It's about time that the autorities got real and dealt with it, starting in schools. More discipline and less of the: "Oh! don't smack the little kiddywinkles" sh*te!

The same is true of showing "remorse".

Anyone who has actually delt with serious nutters in prison will tell you that the brighter ones (it's relative) quickly learn to say how bad they feel about what they've done especially when their sentence is made or is under review and the there is a prospect of early release. Ability to show remorse indicates a criminals ability to manipulate the system. Don't kid yourself that these nutters ever show any real remorse.

The fact that so many court cases emphasise how much "remorse" is shown by the accused shows just how dense some judges are.

Hasn't anybody else noticed that whenever this scumervent pass or try to pass a new law which has a degree of control over us, ie racial hatred, the media (bbc and newspapers) are suddenly full of the stuff, when these type of particular incidents that are everyday stuff around the country/world, but just normally go up reported.

kiddy porn
racial hatred
speed related incidents
mrsa
waiting lists of all kinds
unsafe aircraft
global warning
etc

all part of the control program

Ist dreadful - und ist always some article relating to this "Happy Slapping" .....

Ist mix of indiscipline, lack of parental control. political correctness, fear of making thes kids face reality und giving falso hopes which result in frustration und aggression.

Und the positive aspects of tolerance has been hi-jacked by this political correct nonsense of sacrifing one established culture lest it offends another. All it does ist create frustration by removing an "identity" for all cultures. Ist perhaps why we have such problems as we do now,

I agree Liebchen - und never had to carry out the threat - but ist there They are told if I reach three - claw will meet mit bottom or leg. (actually - ist a grounding und withdrawal of pocket money und other privileges - (OK - we fine 'em! und "lock them up!" - sort of! )) Und really - ist punitive enough to deter - ist not half measure.

Yeah.. Britain is turning into some nightmarish place... Lets get a bit of perspective people! People will always have a problem with other poples differences, whether it is colour, disability, size, etc. This will not change, no matter what law comes in, and which liberties are removed.
Also, when things like Rwanda, and the Congo conflict is occurring now, we choose to concentrate on an isolated incident on Merseyside, (by the way, the whole calm down, calm down thing has been done to death. Please try to come up with something original without refering to stuff you see on tv in the previous century).

Racism in UK is an odd thing. The rest of the world has a free license to be as racist as they please. Look at Rwanda, one tribe massacring another, under the careful, yet undoing eye of the UN. The congo, where millions have died, yet nothing is being done. Zimbabwe, where whites are being turfed out of their homes. Nobody cares about this. It is not considered racist, even though one race is going after another, just because they happen to be born in a certain place, or be a different colour. Wher eis the media coverage? Where are the bleeding hearts weepig for the victims? Nowhere to be seen. They can be found on a street corner, where an individual lost their life in brutal circumstances, yet pales into insignificance. The media have a great deal of responsibility, yet they are more interested in what sells papers, that what SHOULD be in them...

I don't get this racist stuff- an asian woman had her garage set alight- police say it was a racist attack- why was it racist? If a person of differing skin colour to mine sets my garage on fire, can I claim it was racially motivated?

Yep, you can. A racially-motivated incident is defined by the Home Office as one considered to be racist by any person. This can be, but is not excluded to, the victim or witnesses. To use your example, even if you don't know that a person of a different ethnicity started the fire, if you believe it to be racist... it is.

Racially-motivated incidents also carry a higher penalty than "ordinary offences. For example, the maximum tariff for ABH is five years. Racially-motivated ABH is seven.

Won't apply to murder though, as there is a mandatory life sentence anyway. let's hope for whoever did this life means life.

Can there really be one type of ABH that is worse than another? That sounds prepostrous, (but knowing todays society, more than likely). I beat someone up becasue I think they are a huge fat waste of space, I get 5 years. I beat someone up for the colour of their skin, I get 7 years. Surely that is an 'ism of some sort???

Don't ask me, I just arrest them! Its not just assault though, applies to criminal damage, sections of the public order act, and so on.

I nicked a guy once who told to me to "F#ck off or I'll rape your mum". He got fined £50 under section 4a of the Public Order Act. The following week I nicked somone else for telling me to "F#ck off and find some niggers and Pakis to push around" (apologies if this offends anyone, hope you understand context. He was swifted under the same legislation, but I considered this to be racist. He was put before the beak and fined £250 and given 150 hours community service. There was about three times as much paperwork to do, including a report to the local Community and Race Relations Officer.

I think that shows the seriousness with which the judiciary trear racial offences.
