New year, new approach to separating work from home life…..no more emails and teams chats while in the queue at the supermarket or watching the kids sports training sessions.

TL;DR Looking for guidance and sense check on migrating to a personal iPhone from a work iPhone while also having a legacy personal iPad which has the apple ID linked to my personal email.

Work iPhone has photos (storage and cloud) which I would want to bring over, but I don’t want to bring the phonebook, work apps/security, teams logins etc and I’m unsure how to separate the two subjects.

Work iPhone has an apple ID with my company email.

Old iPad has an apple ID with my personal email.

Can anyone suggest the steps once I receive my new personal iPhone? So far I am thinking:

1 – Receive new iPhone and startup with existing apple ID from personal email, this will sync the iPad content with it’s 10GB of photos. I’m not actually fussed on syncing with the iPad as it’s not actively used for apps and the last photo on it was years ago however I assume I’m stuck with it mirroring onto the phone. The iPad is used for occasional browsing and used while cooking, it won’t die so doesn't warrant replacement.

2 – Not sure how I then get the photos from my work phone over to the new iPhone in the cleanest way.

A further note is that the work iPhone has all my active apps from amazon to finance and it would be great to port them all over however they are all linked to my personal email and I’m guessing it’s just as easy to merely download the app on the new iPhone and login. As I type that it seems far easier to do it that way and any saving in time etc is going to minimal if there are complex steps involved to port them over.

So this really just boils down to the photos.

Edit - hit submit before finishing the title so if anyone can change it to 'iPhone migration' that would be helpful. Oops!

I would put GooglePhotos on the works phone, let them upload and sync, put the same app on the personal iPhone and they'll be available (you can also then choose to download them to the device and then remove the app etc...)

As above is probably the best way. As you are seperating there is no point using the iCloud backup to do this (means signing in and out of multiple accounts and making sure you have everything saved in more than one place)

Thanks both that makes sense and fewer steps in between and nice and simple to boot.

Anything to look out for syncing the iCloud photos to google, I'm thinking that the phone has offloaded alot of photos making them smaller/less detailed versions so I would need to ensure that I'm actually getting the best quality of each photo.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max is likely to replace the iPad now anyway since it's verging on small tablet size.

Get all your iCloud photos: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT209454

Then use iCloud Photos (windows) or Photos (Mac) signed in with your personal account to upload to iCloud.

Apps are simplest just to install what you want on your new phone and delete off the old. Make sure you transfer any banking apps or 2-factor authenticator stuff in the right way.
