Chimaera to Cerbera - and - If TVR made TV's........
Well I've finaly taken the plunge and gone straight fron a CHimaera 450 to a Cerb 4.2, I've had it for 3 days now, and when I picked it up and drove it back home (I bought it privately) I couldnt get over the noise it made. After the classic V8 growl of my CHim, the Cerb sounded like a Diesel with loose tappets, and really slow. The CHim used to pull strongly from low revs in any gear, instant surge. the Cerb feels so slow ! Being convinced I'd just purchased a 'Lemon' and the engine was about to blow at any second, it really is like a tappety old diesel in comparism to the RV8, I've neen keeping it below 3500 revs until I take it in for its service on Wednesday. But I wasnt sure if I should be driving it at all it sounded so rough - so I nipped down, or should I stay drove leisurely and carefully, to a local TVR Garage to just ask a MEcahnic if I should leave it with them and stop driving it before it blew up. Got to the Garage, asked the receptionist if a mecahnic could just have a quick listen to my new Diesel, and went outside and waited for him to come out. WHen he walked over, I started it up and said 'Can you just have a listen to this please', and guesss what Mr. MEchanic says ? 'Sweet as nut a Sir, dont hear many that smooth'. So there you have it, its true, Cerbs sound like friggin Diesel's !!!
Anyway to be fair - I'm still teating my new baby carefully unti David Hendry (Malmesbury) relieves me of lots of beer vouchers this coming wednesday, then I might hit the loud pedal and things might be different then, I'll let you let you all know.
In the 3 days that I've had it heres a quick summary of my feelings and experiences.
1. It sounds rough and feels slow.
2. The heating system is 'Shite' compared to the CHim - I just know I'm going to freeze in summer and have a windscreen that is constantly fogged up.
3. The Indicator's have stopped working - fixed it, loose connection on the ribbon cable.
4. I dont think the wiper motor is really electric, I think there is an an old lady with severe arthritis under the bonnet somewhere turning it by hand.
5. I got locked in and had to pull the old emrgency door release to get out.
Trouble is it looks feckin stunning and I love it !!! It's definitely a car that makes your heart rule you, and not your head. The Cerb is that Dirty looking bitch you see in the Pub and just cant resist, stunning looking, looks like she'll do everything and more- but you just know you should walk away, she'll be nothing but trouble, but you can't he;p it, you want it her !!
And now onto 'If TVR made TV sets.......
Now if we all agree that SONY make stunning TV sets, and great surround sound Hi-Fi systems, then lets call SONY a Porsche. It's great kit. looks good, fantastic picture quality,totally reliable.
TVR, well I cant think of a TV make to compare, lets just call it TVR. It looks stunning, fantastic picture, fantastic features, and cheaper than the SONY, just so much better looking!
You call your mates round to see it, and they are blown away by it, its amazing.
Then they call round again 1 week later - this time the picture is fuzzy 'Yeah, its the atmosspheric conditions' you explain.
Next week they come round again, great picture, but the surround sound doesnt appear right - ' Yeah, my left channel surround sound isnt working for some reason, it was fine earlier on'
Week later they call round again - You have to get up to change the channel 'Sorry mate the remote has packed up, think its the battery'
But next day everything is fine again - and you love it !!

Yes I did test drive it, and I drove others ones before I bought this one, but it's not until you've had a decent long drive in any car that you really get to know it. I was just making the comment that i.m.o they don't sound as good as the old RV9 - they are toally different cars though, and oce it's been serviced and I know its OK, and I have the confidence to floor it - then I hope I will appreciate it.

Theres your answer as to why it feels slow sir!
Take it over 4k and all hell will break loose. Low down the Chims RV8 will always seem to pull more than a cerb, but when you get the engine wound up it'll make your Chim feel like a snail.
Still can't beat the sound of a properly set up de-baffled RV8 though!!!
sorry gazboy......didnt realise it was so annoying and didnt realise i was doing it.i am the laziest person in the world and therefore shorten any spellings that i can,but i will try and use full queens english from now on if i remember(as well as being lazy,my memory aint what it used to be)i hope this appeases the mass"s! and my new best friend gemini
