Hi all,
Recently taken delivery of a new Moho. We still like to look for cheap dvd & boxsets in charity shops, and we carry a few dvds with us in the van, useful for times when there is no tv signal or internet. Our new van came with a Smart TV with no dvd player. I can plug in a portable dvd player into the tv via an hdmi connection but I'm just looking for some advice/thoughts.

There are many cheap ones available, circa £30-ish which come with a fold-down screen, are these suitable for a standalone player plugged into a TV? Or would I be better paying a bit more for something like this Sony dvd player available in Sainsburys, at £80? It has no screen but that's fine, we want to be able to watch on our bang-up-to-date tv with good quality screen.

And another possibly daft question, does the player have to sit horizontally when being used or can I sit it on edge, as there is a suitable shelf for that in our van?

How about an in car dvd system? Can be used in the back of a car, kids, grandkids etc, they are portable / 12v, so yiu could set them up in bedroom to watch dvd, or in main sitting area? Yiu could even have one person watch tv, one watch dvd in bedroom out even outside.

They’re cheap as chips, twin screens, full kit, etc, new and second hand.
We have one for the estate car, and transfer to motorhome and it’s been good. And our tv has a dvd anyway, just nice if we want to watch something a s kids want to watch a box set.

Many thanks for that, I had thought of that but really e wanted to be able to watch tv on the new higher res TV fitted in our new van.

Following advice, I've taken to ripping DVDs onto a hard drive, something that I'd forgotten was a thing we used to do smile. I've had to resurrect an old laptop as current ones no longer have disc drives.

Your idea is worth bearing in mind that we'd be able to watch different things though, and as you say, they're as cheap as chips.

Thanks thumbup

I carry a laptop always so I just use a USB DVD drive if I ever want to take DVD's away with me, then just HDMI the laptop into the TV

Second hand Playstation 3? can be had very cheap as they're old hat for gaming and the later "slim" version is quite small. Plays Bluray discs too as well as games, if you get bored. HDMI connection would suit modern tv's.
