At the moment my F01 doesn't have these fitted to the 18" alloys & winter tyres

But there are no issues re the tyre pressure on the iDrive etc

Does anyone know if my car came with TPMS sensors in the wheels and if so and I buy them; are they simply plug n play and the iDrive will sort itself once it's picked them up and calibrated etc?

Any suggestions for their replacement too?

Cheers

I have a 2016 F10 so might be similar. Bought some winter alloys and tyres from eBay that claimed they included TPMS sensors. Put them on the car and iDrive complained, turns out there were no sensors.

Spent quite a while on realoem finding the right part number for my VIN and took a punt on these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254420580952

Local tyre place fitted them and everything works - takes about 6 miles and two cycles of the iDrive pressure reset before they're recognised.

Cheers; I've got them in my eBay watchlist already: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353647450954?ssPageName...

My understanding is that RDC was introduced in F01s produced from 09/2010 onwards.

Just spoken to Cotswolds BMW parts and by their system my car didn't have them fitted in the wheel...

So does this mean the tyre pressures are picked up by the speed sensor or similar?

The iDrive deffo has the tyre pressure stuff activated etc; it even came up with a warning when I first fitted my winter alloys & tyres and reset itself after a few miles of driving

Speak to the good chaps at tpmswarehouse.co.uk

They can sell you TPMS pre configured for your car. Give them the VIN/ model etc.
Think i paid £150 inc delivery for last set. Proper Continental ones too, not some oem ripoff as you see on eBay.

You have the old school flat tyre monitor as opposed to tyre pressure monitor. It uses individual wheel ABS sensors instead of adfitional tyre pressure sensors. By all accounts you may consider yourself lucky.

I believe it can be coded and hardware fitted, but I am not sure you have the wiring for the RDC (Reifendruck K(C)ontrolle) aka TPM Tyre Pressure Monitoring) control unit.

TMP only conditionally makes sense to people who stick with RFTs and are too lazy to periodically check the pressure. As RFT have rigid sidewalls it takes a more significant pressure drop for the ABS based system to pick it up. I guess that was the original reason why RDC was introduced, as BMW was peddling RFTs back then.

Couple of £hundred saved in my books; I check tyre pressures weekly TBH, takes 2mins with my Draper gauge etc. Peace of mind and all that smile
