Have an order for the GTS likely due 1st half of 2023, but was thinking of trying a Hartech sorted 997 before then in order to potentially save myself £50K!

Sticking to manual and would probably go for a coupe 911 rather than cabriolet. Historically have had 2 x 996's pre kids

Any thoughts or words of wisdom?

I went the opposite way.

My 997.1 was great but the engine wasn’t broken but It wasn’t bulletproof. This issue always niggled at me.

I also didn’t have the spec I wanted. Was going for a gen 2 4s but I was always compromising on spec and colour.

Went for the GTS 4.0 with my colour and spec. It’s great mid engine design gives great confidence when cornering.

The 997 with the engine sorted and your ideal spec wouldn’t be a bad option. But, theses are old cars now so you will need a budget to put things right.

It might be that I try the 997 1st and see how it feels before deciding to continue (or not) with the GTS order. I had a painful engine rebuild before so dont want to go that route again. A Hartech rebuild should negate engine niggles. Cheers

I went 997.2 - 981 Spyder. The 997 was too old and while I loved it, much less of an event for the fun stuff compared with the 981 which is fantastic. But if you do do the 911 route, I’d definitely do 997.2 or GTS and you’ll still save compared with a 718 GTS.

997.2 prices seemed to be firming nearer the £50K mark from what I remember, so playing virtual top trumps, I'd probably stick with the718 with more power, convertible, warranty and pcp finance. versus a £25K saving.

I guess these 997's are starting to feel their age, although I do like the RPM Technik modding options into a CSR.
