Alternatives to 991 Turbo S
Discussion
I recently picked up a 991 Turbo S Cabriolet with lots of options and 16k miles and I'm absolutely blown away by it for a number of reasons.
In 'normal' mode it's smooth, comfortable, not too 'in your face' and very easy to drive serenely. In Sport Plus it becomes an absolute weapon of a car, handles like it's on rails and goes like a missile. It really is a phenomenal car with supercar performance when you want it and genuinely can be used daily in all weathers without being too conspicuous.
So what is it's competition? Is a Gallardo/Huracan an obvious alternative? A lot more shouty, a proper supercar? R8 V10? Aston V12 Vantage? Maserati GranCabrio? Ferrari 458? California?
Idle musings this evening as they all seem to have certain characteristics or downsides and nothing else seems to have the overall package.
Thoughts?

Aston Vantage/DBS, Mercedes-AMG GT, Bentley Continental GT, BMW M8, Maserati GranTurismo all spring to mind.
The Porsche is very much in a class of its own though I’d say:
Aston - too expensive.
AMG GT - discontinued and badge is a bit common.
Bentley - too lardy.
BMW M8 - lardy and common. Not as special to drive.
Maser - archaic.
Nothing matches it for pace (or at least the 992), handling and luxury for that price point.

Those are all GT cars apart from the Merc. The Porsche is very much in a class of its own though I’d say:

I’d say it’s more supercar territory, McLaren 720S / 570 depending budget, Ferrari 488, R8 V10, New Vantage, Aventador, are more on a par, or at an absolute push a tuned GTR although that’s a massive step down in luxury / brand if that’s a concern
Depends what you want I guess. I’ve been staring at o91 turbos in the classifieds for a couple of years now but can’t quite bring myself to do it. They’re undeniably great as a car to cover a lot of bases, but it’s a jack of all trades really…
If you want an out and out sports car then a GTS with no,sunroof, PCCBs PASM a manual gearbox and carbon buckets for 90k will be more involving and more of a sports car. Add a Lichfield stage 2 tune and with 540bhp it’s in turbo power territory easily but with way more interaction and fun.

I love my 911 Turbo but had to do a few things to really bring it alive. The first thing was make it sound better. I added a Sharkwerks X-pipe, which suddenly made tunnel runs so much better. I then spent a day at Center Gravity getting a decent geo setup. That absolutely transformed the handling for me. I’ve also just ditched the P-Zeros for PS4Ss which has completed the car in my opinion. It now feels like a proper twitchy sports car. I really don’t think there’s much out there (for the money) to do everything so well.
Ferrari 488 you're looking at almost twice the price - could you use it every day?
McLaren seems to me to be the place to go for something moderately comparable.
Just struck me as not being much that directly competes - the only thing it lacks is the 'wow factor' which I actually see as quite a good thing in most instances.

I've always sort of viewed the Turbo S as in a class of its own. Silly quick, usable in all weathers thanks to all-wheel drive, relatively practical and usable as a daily because they hold their value with big miles and servicing is reasonable.
R8 V10 is the closest I can think of. Maybe an F-Type R (although really that's a class / price point lower).

After having a 911 Turbo S for a day to test I would agree its an absolute weapon. Under 3 seconds to 60 !!.
I chose the TVR Tuscan instead as it did many things better and many things worse.
How you compare it depends on what you want. So apart from acceleration its a 4/5 car. There is nothing that provides the overall package as you say OP.
However there will always been something sounding better, better handling, more space, more nimble, more powerful, more efficient but very few cars have the overall package.
