What a fool, according to PH financial experts, you should have maxed out your mortgage to buy the biggest house you can or spent the money on Vanguard, leased an Audi, invested in a depreciating asset…or something like that!

Thanks for the comments chaps, some did make me laugh. In response:-
1. House not repossessed
2. Been through the lease car, big mortgage etc. Not going there again.
3. I love the 996 (bought as a project), after 6 TVR's I'm quite adept with a spanner
and love finding alternative suppliers to avoid the "Porsche Tax"
4. Off to Bridport \ West Bay tomorrow to celebrate with the best fish & chips around (we know how to live)

Never been a 996 enthusiast until my neighbor bought an absolutely mint version for £16k 9 months ago. Changed my mind now!1. House not repossessed

I think it depends a lot on your house.
I'm mortgage free but it doesn't feel that great because I'd like to be in a bigger house. Trouble is anything still in the area which I like would be double the price and another big mortgage. On balance the bigger house wouldn't improve my wellbeing.

I looked at TVR's again last year but couldn't face paying what they sell for now. The 996 is a cheap way into something good its, analogue, handles well and its a fun drive at normal speeds. Ok its not the best Porsche, I could have bought a new one but wanted the "project". I paid 17K for mine it had just had £6K spent on it a few month's before (IMS, condensers etc all the usual bits). I've spent similar on suspension, paint, water pump etc. It's a hobby
Congratulations OP, what a great feeling.
Further good news is, the warm happy feeling doesn’t disappear anytime soon. Ive been mortgage free for five months, and every month when I see all my utility bills come out at the same time, but no mortgage payment…
