*META FALLS 25%, SET FOR BIGGEST VALUE WIPEOUT EVER
Discussion
It's interesting that it hasn't bounced yet. Usually there's some free money on this sort of event.
On the wider scale it's interesting how 'big data' seems to being viewed based on whether you own it like Google or whether you only get it if another company lets you have it. The iOS change does look to have whacked FB's ability to operate as an advertising business as efficiently as its competitors.
Makes you ponder what would happen if it was just rated as the advertising business that ultimately it is?
But it's customers have declining shopping power which is arguably its core issue. The ability for FB to facilitate the random sale of plushies, fidget spinners, poppits and all the other worthless tat that keeps the zombie shopping apocalypse happy is taking a knock due rising food and living costs.

I wonder if there is a demographic issue here. I dislike FB and have no interest in posting selfies on mountaintops and so on, but I notice that the younger generation see it as a bit geriatric though I cannot quantify this.On the wider scale it's interesting how 'big data' seems to being viewed based on whether you own it like Google or whether you only get it if another company lets you have it. Still, feels like it has more past than future.
Well, they have the FB website for selling Saga holiday via for the old folk. They've got Instagram for flogging avocado crypto coins to people with beards and I'll fitting trousers to. Part of their long term problem is that Roblox is the player for flogging tat to kids. META need a platform to capture the next gen of zombie shoppers.
As I mentioned in another thread, those of the same generation as Zuckerberg tend to see him as an iconic hero of their generation but those younger probably see him as the weirdo in the park they were raised to keep away from?
The whole sector has been in a bear market for at least 6 months now and while it was all pumped up together there seems to be some selection going on as it deflates a little.
The market seems to be looking at who really owns the stuff a company needs to generate revenue, the spending power of the existing customers rather than a belief in an endless flow of new customers.
META is really just a multi generational set of platforms for selling tat through, like some others are really just a subscription TV channel or a car manufacturer. The risk being that at some point all the glamour and newness might wear off and they just have to start paying a dividend and focussing on being a business rather than a religion?
In reality, we're probably just seeing some of the much needed blowing off of froth rather than anything particularly bad or world changing.

Still surprised a little at the absence of bounce. Few shorts ahead of earnings and I wonder if the buyers are simply waiting for AMZN. If their numbers are OK then like GOOG did it might underpin the sector.
Would this make FB currently a geared play on AMZN not crapping the bed tonight?

Is there any reason why Meta couldn't be a virtual copy of the real world? What I mean is that rather than walking to the Town hall/Hospita/Doctors/Asda why could you not do all of these virtually?
A woman claimed she was virtually groped by a gang of male avatars in Meta's metaverse, report saysThis is far from an isolated incident and will make metaverse impossible to deliver with out all the restrictions of the real world.

I deleted my account years ago for two reasons. One. privacy fears as Cambridge Analytica exposed, at the time, it did not matter how cautious I was, they could still get info about me via the mistakes of my friends. Two, I did not like the impact facebook was having on my real life. At its height, people would spend more time taking photos of an evening out for facebook than enjoying the evening out. I found it annoying and did not want to be part of it.
My wife uses FaceBook many times a day but does not contribute. I suspect she is not alone and a forum of leeches is not going to be successful. If they continue in this direction, FaceBook will become a replacement for yellow pages as it will only be companies posting.

Well, if my youngest daughter is any indication of the total demise of society, the biggest issue for me walking to the virtual shops to get some virtual beers is that a 10 year old girl will shoot me dead after a dare from her 11 year old sister. This is far from an isolated incident and will make metaverse impossible to deliver with out all the restrictions of the real world.
Besides, even if I make it alive to the virtual shop, I'm going to have to rob the place because Zuckerberg hasn't given me a Bank of Toyland account or any beardy weirdy fantasy currency to use.
Besides, aren't 80% of people currently in the metaverse supposed to be 55 year old registered sex offenders pretending to be little girls? Doesn't strike me as an easy sell to normal humans.
