Recommend me an alternative box to Sky (time to cancel)

My Sky contract expires in March and I am planning on cancelling as I do not watch it at all. My wife on the other hand uses the Sky box to watch ITV / Channel 4 & BBC on catchup as well as some crap on TLC.

TLC is part of Discovery + - the rest of the channels she watches are free to air. She likes the Sky box because download is convenient.

What can people recommend (apart from a laptop) for which allows download of free to air channels and allows subscription to Discovery+?

I would be looking at a freesat DVR, has the convenience the same as a sky box but no subscription.

Might be better off with Freeview/Youview through an aerial, get yourself a used BT Youview box to record FTA TV and also has all the catch-up and streaming built in. £30-40 on Ebay. Needs a wired ethernet for BB.

If you do want to subscribe, BT TV has the Discovery Channel, you'll also get the Youview box which you keep if you unsubscribe. Note the EPEG interface is not as good as Sky's.
