Hi

I recently added BT Whole Home WiFi to deal with low quality connection in parts of the house. The 3 discs are connected to a BT Smart Hub.

Since doing this I have noticed a lot of short internet connection drop outs, most noticeable when streaming films. I don't recall this issue before the Whole Home discs.

Has anybody else experienced this issue or is it just co-incidental?

No issue with mine.

Have you used the app to make sure they are located in suitable places and are not too far from each other?

I'm about to look at new contract, am currently with BT and in the lounge/dinning room signal is perfect.... sadly the other side of the house signal is very patchy having the 3 discs seems to make no real difference (old house with solid concrete walls) so I may get a BT engineer callout (as offered) to get it resolved (not a fan of sky internet)

My parents have the same issue. Oldish house, walls are all solid. They added 2 discs to stretch to every point in the house and now they get semi-regular connection drops; only really noticeable when they are streaming tv.

BT offered to have a technician come out who, as lovely as they were, had very limited technical knowledge. They even tried to suggest that the 2 amazon plugs they had installed were a huge drain on bandwidth (to the point the connection around the house would drop...).

They've had enough, the connection has been patchy for years so they're now looking at switching providers.

How will switching providers solve the WiFi issue?

Tech came round to my place for Halo install.
Saw the kit I was using - ( checked it and decided that he couldn't better it )

I asked can we kill the BT wifi?
( as my wifi goes through a Bitdefender box ) - before it goes out to wifi.
(was thinking. - 1 less wifi dancing around in the happy one must be a good thing )
He had no idea how to switch it off.

As pleasant as he was - he simply had no clue

It isn’t possible to turn of the WiFi on a BT router if you remain opted in to the BT WiFi that you can use whilst out and about.

I tried three Of these discs to strengthen the wifi signal across my house, but after several frustrating weeks I stopped using them.

Basically they would drop out at random intervals and I had to reboot them every time, so they’re going up for sale on eBay.

Back to using just the wifi router for now.

I've been using the bt disks for 3 years in a victorian terrace over 4 floors and also into the garden summer house.

The only issue I've had in that time was my wife working in the conservatory on the side of the house solved with the addition of an extra disk.

28 devices on the network rock solid all the time.

I’ve got 6 BT whole home disks- occasional wobbles but generally solid. I found, from the outset, I had to replace the BT hub with a Netgear Nighthawk as the BT hub was dropping out and rebooting on a daily basis.

The big thing with any mesh system is the access points must not be too close together. The actual distance they need will vary depending on the hardware and the type of walls you have.

If there are two points too close together your devices will jump between them constantly with connection drops as they change over.
