I'm just putting together a new wiring schematic for my restomod build and I'm a little confused around the number of connectors required to interface with the wing mirrors.

As far as I know, there are 3 main functions:

1) Mirror motors
2) Mirror heater
3) Door open button

Does anyone know how these wires come into the door normally? I'm guessing there should be 4 or 5 from the motors depending how they work, 2 for the mirror heater and 2 for the door opener. Since probably 3 or more of these are grounds I could combine them. Then if I were specifying a connector for the door mirror, I could just use a small 8 pin connector and route everything through this into the door harness. I'd like to clarify exactly how many contacts I'd need though - does anyone have knowledge and/or a photo?

Thanks!

Not clear what you're trying to achieve here and imho much better to plan mods in detail when you can see the car. I've restored my MK2 Chim so have a fair working knowledge but there are others on here that have much more knowledge and experience than me. But if I recall correctly the mirror housing will have 7 wires; three to control the motor and two each for the door release and mirror heater element. Don't forget the driver's door has a cross over switch and mirror control joystick that controls both mirrors. Wiring into the door is through the ring collar/mushroom that supports the mirror.

For the actual mirror there are the following wires which come up through the mounting boss with connectors inside the door.

Door opener - 2 thin wires going through a 2 wire connector inside the door

Mirror motor - there are three wires that go to the motor and two others that go to the glass heater.
There is also a connector inside the door. (I can't quite recall if it's an all in one 5-way connector or a separate 2 and 3 though).

Thank you very much! As part of my rebuild I decided (perhaps foolishly, time will tell...) to rip out all wiring and the fuse box and replace the whole lot with a newly designed set of harnesses and totally different electrical equipment equipment in the car. One of the few bits I'm keeping are the mirrors though so I need to make sure I leave enough wires in the harness to hook up the motors, door button and heater.

Thanks very much though, that's perfect - 3 wires for the motor. Good point about the switchover though. I'm not sure whether I'm going to keep the mirror controls in the door or relocate them somewhere else yet. In any case that would be 3 more wires running across to the left mirror depending where the controls go... Will have to have a think what to do about that.

Thanks though chaps that's very helpful.

My mirror support fell to bits on my 2000 reg. Chimaera that I owned in 2014.

Took photos at the time; the door release buttons were 2 separate wires going to their own 2=pin connector taped to the 5 pin loom mentioned above (heater and mirror motors). Probably because it was a change in the 1997/98 facelift and the 5 pin connector was already in use previously. By the way it was too big to come through the hole so it had to be de-constructed. frown

Brilliant, thanks for the picture. Of course the added door button was a bodge - classic TVR. You've got to love them smile I think the tub I'm using is a 99 so should be the same as yours...

I have a faint recollection that they may be blue because I had replaced them. The originals had chafed through! rolleyes Disassembling the mirror body for access is a whole major evolution covered elsewhere.......
