I'm in a bit of a quandary, after much vacillation I've made the decision to ask the PH collective, which may be the best and/or worst car advice, I'll give a bit of back story.

Used to run a RS6 PE C7, love that car but due to various personal circumstances it became surplus to requirements.

With the various tax savings at my job I now have a Volkswagen ID3, which I used for commuting and as a run around locally.

The savings I've made has given me some extra cash and I'm looking for a weekend vehicle.

I'd don't need to run anything too practical so I've been looking at sports cars. I started looking middle of summer last year.

To cut a long story short I have the opportunity to access a May 2022 build slot for a GT4.

Now that it's come I'm not sure I want it, am I being mad? I'll explain my reasons.

I can afford the monthly payments etc, but it's at the upper limit of what I'd want to pay and I'm currently enjoying all extra cash I have on other things. The EV is boring as you know but I still have an A-B vehicle that is costing me so little to run so therefore I feel that my money is better spent elsewhere for the current time.

I intend to run a weekend car for a couple of years minimum whilst I have no personal commitments.

Another reason is I'm not expecting to run it for a lot miles, any weekend car I would get would be around 5000 miles a year. Do I want to pony up, what is not an insignificant amount for a GT4 that won't get daily use.

If I was to give up the GT4 my plan would be to wait when the second hand market calmed down (hopefully) and get something cheaper.

However running an older sports cars makes me think that there is a greater potential for maintenance, breakdowns, spare part costs and the deprecation.

I don't run cars to make money but am I right in thinking that a low mileage GT4 won't loose me much money, or am I just being too clever? It might cost me more in the short term but long term it might cost me the same as a 10 year old motor.

I've run various fast cars over the years so my appetite for something quick is not as big as it was lets say 10 years ago when I first started to afford performance cars. I know that in 12-18 months time after only having a 'battery box' I will crave a proper car but for now I am contend to wait... however I can't defer a GT build slot.

I feel whilst I have the opportunity to get a new GT4 I should, or am I believing Porsche hype on GT vehicles?? Should I walk away and get something cheaper later when I'm ready.

Sorry for the rambling nature of this thread, hope it makes sense. Thoughts please?

All cars need maintaining.

All cars depreciate apart from some classics.
For example, Morgans seem to hold their money.
I was offered a TVR Sagaris 8 years ago for £35,000.
To buy the same car now would cost the thick end of £60-75,000.
But even that needs to be serviced, but not at Porsche main dealer rates.

If you are having second thoughts about the GT4, try to think clearly about what it is you do want.
Only you know.

Just my opinion.

Can you make money selling on a new GT4? I don’t know what the market is like now. I had a 981 GT4 (second hand) I didn’t like it. Lovely car but as a weekend car it didn’t feel fun enough for me. Just felt like a very nice normal car. Controversial opinion maybe as most people love them and rave about them. I never took to it.
Can cross it off the list though and I made a few quid on it when I sold it.

All depends on what you want in a weekend car. I replaced it with a new 20th Anniversary Exige. I love it but I do think did I need to spend that much money as it just sits in the garage most of the time. Would a second hand Exige or maybe a Caterham suited me more. Personal choice at the end of the day. You might love the GT4 just know what you are getting into unlike me!

Why not spend less & get a car that's just as capable as a GT4 & every bit as special.

Corvette Z06 great handling car that gives 997 GT3's a hard time in the handling department & will feel special just on start up.smile

GT4 will come alive at the Ring, elsewhere it's not such an involving fun car. I suspect you need something with more passion as you're already having doubts. you're not mad, it's just not a bucket list car.

This is what I'm thinking, I don't like cars for speculation, but looking at the Porsche forum the chat is that this summer will be last for this GT4 and a few GT4 RS next year only. But again do I really believe the PH'er forum.

So maybe I should take it and run it for a while and then move it on.

It's all coming down to timing and currently the build slot hasn't come at a good time for me, but sometimes in life you have to take it as it comes.

Both good choices, even more food for thought.

Id be buying your self a Lotus, majority of them that are under 50K have risen in the last few years and they dont make them anymore so i dont see the prices dropping.

You have the options from Elise to Evora to pick from really, there is somethign for everone in the range i think.

Jon Seal Sportscars had or has a nice IPS Exige V6 currently that i think was around 40K would be worth a look, it had the komotech 410 kit fitted it think so wont be lacking!
