Hi Folks, HSBC had me install IBM Rapport as some kind of security, I cant remember when this was but some time back.

It loves hogging computer resources so I want to uninstall it as I dont really bank on the PC. I am on a Windows 10 Machine.

The regular uninstaller link takes me to add remove programs but its not listed. I tried to download the installer and install again but the uninstaller fails then takes me to the IBM website which gives me the same exe again. HSBC send me to IBM when I try to get help, and IBM havent responded to my requests.

When I look on the IBM site it offers the same download which is listed under Win 7, not 10 so maybe this is the issue.

Ive disabled the option under startup in msconfig but it still launches!

My next option was to take a look in the Registry but I cant see anything obvious.

Could anyone offer any advice please? Thanks!

Have you tried both locations of installed programs?
  • [Control Panel > Programs & Features]
  • [Settings > Apps]
Otherwise see if it's listed via Windows Powershell.

This is of course assuming they haven't given it a name that has no relation to the name of the app wink

Try installing it again, which might generate the uninstall link in control panel.

I am going to see if the powershell idea has any legs, thanks so far guys

Isn't rapport a browser add on, not a program in it's own right? If so looks in browser extensions in the browser settings and remove that way.

Well, it is appearing in the powershell list of programs! When I run though it is giving a returnvalue of 1603 when it should be 0. Ive been taking a look around and folks say it could be due to the service running or not as admin, but I have made sure both these are the case.

The uninstall does bring up an uninstall program which they have created but it still doesnt have the desired effect haha!

Ill keep digging. I disabled the browser extensions but makes no odds :/ stubborn one!

Don't know what format it comes in now, but it was an app when Natwest tried to force me to install it a good few years ago.

I say 'force' because they strongly implied that if I didn't install it I would be liable for any losses/fraudulent transactions if my computer was compromised.

I'm glad I never did, as the amount of bad stories I heard about it in the intervening years made me wonder whether it was just a resource-stealing placebo anyway.

Maybe you need to restart in safe mode?

BTW, is Window's built-in security still enabled, as I'd have thought any decent AV would have stopped the built-in service?

I don't think it is a full AV program, I recall that its function was to stop screenshots etc.

Success!

I ran the installer in safe mode - thanks for the suggestion. It gave me an error code 1601 which suggests the windows installer is not running. I tried to run that service and am told that it cant work in safe mode.

Anyway I restarted, ran it again the same as the last 15 odd times and this time it was a success and it is actually removed now. Odd but there we go. Thanks all!

Try Bulk crap uninstaller to see if that can remove this software.
