I have just been out having fun in my Tuscan when I notice the battery voltage dropping from 12.8v slowly as i drive until it gets to 10v then pod starts warning me. Then my heater decides it won't switch off so I head home by now battery reading is 9.2v. Once home & engine switched off I am able to turn off heater once ignition back on but car now won't start just a nasty clicking noise.
I know this is down to the battery but any idea's why it would start to fail so quickly never had a problem before & car is always left with accumate conditioner on it? Does this sound like an alternator problem or as I have heard once or twice a 100amp fuse problem?
Any thoughts appreciated as he's stuck up the drive & wants to get back into his nice warm garage.
I will leave him alone for a week if i can get him back in garage then take him to Ian at Middlewich motors next fri but would like some idea what is going on?

Thanks
Howard.

Hi,

Exactly the same thing happened to me last year. Unfortunately for me it was the winter so I had to have the lights on. The cars functions slowly fail, the pod dims until it turns off then the petrol pump fails, then thats it!

I had to be towed back, the prognosis was a new alternator which fixed the problem. The battery was fine. Whilst I was there they also changed the alternator belt which was worn and started to slacken and split.

Hope this helps!

I had a similar problem which you can see here

Turned out to be a failed alternator,
RAC came out and confirmed it, it was then sent to GatwickTVR to be fixed/replaced

Are you not covered by the AA or RAC?

I had a problem that truned out to be the cable from the battery... it had corroded so much that it was not delivering enough juice to start the car.

Turned out to be the Bi Metal strip (100 amp fuse) had blown & melted its holder! all is now well thanks to Ian at Middlewich Mot centre for sorting out for me (only charged £20 too what a guy)

Thanks
Howard.

P.S Anyone who wants work doing on their TVR in the North West should give him a go he is excellent & cheap too (used to be mechanic at Chris Neils set up his own business a while ago)
His no. is 01606 831244

Often heard about this fuse, but never seen it. Where is it located please - may be time to get a spare one for the spares kit.

I have heard good reports about Ian too. He is a bit far from me, but by all accounts he knows what he is doing and get things done properly without being horrendously expensive. Good luck to him and glad he has a recommendation to his name on here now.

The fuse is located underneath the air filter box you have to remove the box to gain access & as you look down from the drivers side its on your left in a black plastic holder.

Thanks
Howard.
