So much choice that you're going to have to narrow your needs and wants down bit!

Otherwise, just put £4/5k min/max limits in Autotrader and see what grabs you.

Without knowing your other criteria i'd say R63 Mini Cooper S you should get a good one in that price range and the Supercharger makes it a fun and interesting car to drive.
I had one and i'm 6ft4 so i'm confident you will fit.

Mk3 MX-5's are pretty good for space for us tall people too.

Personally the first step for me if I want value for money is to ensure that that whatever I consider on the used car market has plenty of optional extras or is of a decent spec with as many toys as possible (e.g. considerations like camera, blind spot detector, digital climate control, cruise, USB, Bluetooth etc).

However, as another PHer has said, you may need to be more specific in what you're after. Country, make, fuel, body etc...

You need to define what you mean by interesting.

Personally, I’d go for an Austin A40 with a 1275 fast road midget engine and front discs at that price. A lot more fun than anything modern.

Classic examples of Chris Bangle (Fiat Coupe) and Giorgetto Giugiaro (Alfa Brera) design would both qualify as interesting, both in looks and ownership experience!

Quite an interesting budget if you’re prepared to get something older and take a punt. Depends what you want…There are FN2 Type Rs available, Scirocco GT 2.0TSI. Volvo C70 T5 mk 2 or Saab 93 convertible for wafty summer cruising. Toyota MR2, MG TF, BMW Z4, Mercedes SLK. Corrosion will need to be a consideration for anything you look at, get them checked thoroughly underneath

Megane R26.

Well regarded as a drivers car, and the prices are starting to up and not down, so depreciation should be nil.

I'm not convinced that anybody wakes up, says "I have £5k and need a car" then takes to the internet to ask what's available... you must have some idea of what you like / want / need / distance you're willing to travel etc etc and if not you could get anything from an utter shed of 1956 MGA Roadster in Thurso to a 2012 Chrysler Ypsilon in London to a leggy Audi A8 in South Wales and almost anything in between. You will have some needs / wants / don not wants so proper a better idea to apply some filters to help narrow to search area down from an area the size of Russia to something more realistic. Any car can be in "interesting" in some capacity.

RenaultSport of some kind.

172 Cup for go kart fun and you’ll get a decent one for £5k. Going up in value too.

As stated, R26 (but you might be lucky to find one in budget now) or a 225 with some goodies, as most of them run either R26 or aftermarket LSD's now anyway.
