Parking. When is a road not a road?

Christmas Eve, I'm out in New Brighton with the other half and our 2 little kids, who're getting hungry. We find a perfect spot to park near so eateries, check the road for markings and all the lamp posts we can see and there's nothing to say we can't park there, so we do. We then come back to a parking ticket. We check everywhere again and still see nothing so take loads of photos and a few videos to contest it. It stated:
Parked in a restricted street during prescribed hours.
It also stated the street - Marine Promenade - which is incorrect as we were parked at the end of a road called Union Terrace
Anyway, we appealed thinking it would be a simple mistake and be revoked but nope, we get a reply saying
The double yellow lines are clearly visible in this location meaning 'no waiting at any time'. I have noted your comments advising that you were not parked in Marine Promenade. Please be advised that after reviewing the evidence I can confirm that the vehicle was parked on the pavement of Marine Promenade
Here are their pics. You can see the double yellow lines, which are on the main road Marine Promenade, and you can see the pavement of this road, but I wasn't parked on the pavement, I was parked on the road Union Terrace.
To try and clear things up, I even annotated some images and Google Maps pictures, which interestingly show that Union Terrace had double yellow lines before it was resurfaced with blocks
Here's the road now:
And here is is back in 2008. If it had double yellow lines on then that makes it a road, right?:
Anyway, their latest response is:
Union Terrace is the name of a row of buildings and not the name of the road
Now every map I can find online shows this as a road, and back in 2008 it had double yellow lines on it
Is there any way I can check if it's been declassified as a road or pedestrianised?
Here's a quick video of the approach. In their defence it's surfaced just like the pavement on the left in front of the buildings, and the approach is a drop-kerb now, but it's still defined in shape just as it was when it was a road with double yellow lines on.
Or have I just cocked up?

But the drop-kerb approach plus double yellows across the approach make it look like pavement,
So maybe it's now all decorative paving they've laid the silhouette of the old road into with some kerbstones?

Firstly I'd never be arrogant enough to park there.
Secondly I'd moan like f
k about anyone who did, all the while whilst wonder why I was so soft and pathetic and that's the reason I didn't drive a huge 4x4 and have a sexy wife and money and perky pectorals....
However
You've made my morning slightly better by knowing that people who take the obvious piss like this, also, rather surprisingly worry about things too.
Sorry OP however was a bit of a piss take, however I also think you stand a chance as it's not the road they say it is and you never know.
Others better sorted to this kind of piss taking will be more helpful and less bhy than I.

Sorry OP, you've pulled onto a pavement over double yellows indicating you were leaving a road.
Things like that are left as access for maintenance, fire etc, not an invite for anyone to drive onto a (clearly) paved area.
Even without signs I, and I suspect most people, wouldn't have parked there.
You can try to argue this one on splitting hairs and wasting council time and public money, or you can suck it up and pay.
