Looking for one of these as a superior shed.to do about 10000 miles a year Petrol auto. 2005 ish.
What to look for...was it just a Cavalier dressed up? So what about Clarkson's favourite hate?
No Pistonhead reviews under Shed of the week...only th9-5 which I suppose was closer to a "proper" Saab

If you get it up on a ramp and have a look, you will see clear differences compared to a cavalier/vectra etc.
SAAB redesigned a hell of a lot of there own gear, merely just used the platform from GM, they over engineered everything, and is quite impressive, adds to their longevity and why you see loads of old 9-3's knocking about and not Vectras!
I would try to get a facelift 2007+ model, much nicer and better built and even more SAAB, they really were nice tanks and very much still SAABs.
Miss mine I ran for 2 years (TTid 2010) but they were starting to feel very old and dated, but still good for the miles.
Always thought I would go back to a 9-3, but glad I scratched that itch, but I would be happier in a E90/91 now, much better screwed together and not far off shed prices now tbh.
Alot of car for the money though, if you can find a good well looked after one, shame as when I was looking there are more very unloved ones out there, then there is cherished at this price bracket.

I've got a 9-5 estate on a 57. Bought cheap as a stop gap with an intention to test it, clean it up and punt it on. That was about 18 months ago! Done over 20k in it now (1.9 TiD) It's had tyres, a replacement idle pulley (was whining) and a coolant bypass hose as it started pissing at 100,000. It's a charming utilitarian thing. Never less than 45 mpg and the 150 is quick enough.
