Morning all,

There seems to be very little written online about user experiences of Citrix Workspace on MacOS, so I hope this might become a helpful resource.

My network setup is a Huawei 311s-220 connecting to EE 4G with reliably decent (but not fast) service (22Mb down, 7Mb up, 30-40ms ping, sub-15ms jitter), with wired connection to computer via a gigabit switch. All devices are using the latest OS, firmware and software versions. There are no other devices consuming significant internet resource.

The problem: I use Citrix Workspace and the Zoom HDX plugin to connect to my work VDI. This worked perfectly (like, boringly reliably) with a Windows PC. I then switched to a MacBook (because: shiny thing) and it is serviceable and often good, but there are frequent noticeable delays: Zoom calls often stutter and Zoom gives me an 'unstable connection' warning. This sometimes seems to be caused by changes on the display (programs opening, minimising large windows), but often seems unexplained (both host and local machines at low resource use). There is also greater latency in Workspace only, particularly in operations that cause big change on the display.

Given my network does not seem stressed (consistently well <2Mb up and down) I'm not sure this is a router QoS issue, but aside from drawing the conclusion that 'Workspace for MacOS is rubbish' I'm struggling for ideas. What am I missing please?

Thanks, and have a good day all

TH

Is the Macbook using the built in display or something else?

Guessing the Macbook is new enough to be Apple Silicon, is the Citrix client M1 native or in Rosetta?

Built-in + USB-C external + USB-C->DisplayPort external

Citrix Workspace works perfectly fine for me on an M1 Mac.
Used it daily for 5 months and no issues.

You using a VPN?

My internet is wired - but slow 40mb down 9mb up.

Is the resolution significantly different compared to the PC?
Worth testing on a fast wired broadband somewhere

Thanks for the suggestions all. Afraid the external displays were maxed out on both machines (in fact the PC was displaying Citrix on the built-in display as well, while the Mac is just stretching across the externals.

Is it an occasional thing, or constant?

Try disabling location services. I read something a while ago while looking into a stuttering issue I was getting when using Moonlight that Location services causes some issues when streaming.

Intermittent but regular. Location Services now disabled - interesting shout, thank you

Yes, 14" MBP, so not struggling for processing.
