HMRC VAT Direct Debit not taken
Discussion
We have 2 Vat registered businesses, both running for several years.
Our VAT is paid by direct debit and has always been taken on the 7th of the following month from end of VAT quarter.
Just noticed that one of the DDs hasn’t been taken this quarter. Usually they are for several hundred to several thousand pounds, however this quarters payment was for 40p due to lower sales and higher purchases.
So, does the DD not trigger under a certain amount? Should I make a manual payment?
I’ve checked my HMRC online account and the return has been accepted and the amount correct, and the DD is also set up and correct.
The amount obviously of no concern but don’t want a penalty from HMRC for non payment.

You have nothing to worry about. HMRC carry forward amounts due of less than £1 to the next VAT period.
Ah Thankyou, that’s what I was hoping to hear.Looked online at our HMRC payment history and it has a red ‘OVERDUE’ label next to the last return, just didn’t want to get hit with a penalty for such a stupid amount.
