I bought my 340i xDrive new in March 2020, it’s covered 12,900 miles. The first service was done yesterday and I have to say I was surprised to find that the rear tyres will need replacing as 75% worn (down to 3.2mm). It’s on Bridgestone’s 255/35R 96Y.
When I bought the car I traded in my 3 year old 540i which had done around 28,000 miles on the original tyres so I was surprised to have chewed through the current set so early.
Any thoughts on what tyres to buy? I’d prefer to stay with runflats as obviously there’s no spare these days.
Thanks in advance.

Have you considered getting a proper alignment done to check all is ok ?
Ar 3,2mm BMW they meet the BMW AUC standards for second hand cars which is min 3mm
So BMW are quite happy to sell 2nd hand cars with tyres at 3,2mm
For what its worth my G30 X drive has Goodyear tyres all round, they have done 34000 and still have plenty of tread on them.
SWMBO has an X1 that has done 37000 and is on its second set of Pirellis and will need a third set before much longer

I have just bought two new Bridgestone Turanza ER300 run flats for the back of my 528i, 225//55/17s. It has them all round so wanted to replace like with like.
I spoke to one of our local tyre places and the guy there said he would expect to get between 6k and 12k miles from them on the back depending on how you drive
I am hoping for a bit more than that.
He did then go on to say that he would recommend Falkens, who they are an agent for so, maybe he was hoping I would go that route so they got make more money.

I reckon your tyre man could be about right. Thinking of alternatives.I spoke to one of our local tyre places and the guy there said he would expect to get between 6k and 12k miles from them on the back depending on how you drive

However I must say that for the little mileage I now do I have found the run flats to be comfortable enough for me and they are not excessively noisy, much to my surprise.
I also didn't want to to buy a spare wheel, there is no space for it, or use the gunk stuff, so decided to stick with the Bridgestones, much to the disdain of you true PH'ers

Bump.
I’ve now covered 16000 miles from new and the rear tyres are down to 2.1mm so it really is time to replace them.
That’s very disappointing for such a low mileage. BMW want to change like for like so Bridgestones but I’m thinking of Goodyear Eagles as they lasted so well on my previous BMW 540.
Any thoughts?

Whilst I can’t comment on new choice, on my F36 440i they all needed changing at 15,000 miles. RFTs at £1100 for the set and £50 alignment eeek on 20” Pirellis.
The tyre place said they were heavily misaligned (perhaps car like that from factory or serious pot holes near by). I do my best to avoid pot holes and have touch wood never had a blow out, but a road I travel in daily regularly has a crater form annually which is sometimes unavoidable - not deep but deep enough and wide. Tyre place put it down to alignment shifting over time as it was only certain sections of the tyres (can’t remember middle or edges) that were excessively worn.

You have a high powered car with excellent grip. To get this power down your tyres wear. I have 335d (rwd). This is wearing rear tyres out quite fast. As did my last modified 330d rwd. I use Goodyear Eagle F1 or Conti Sport Contact 6 run flats. I can never get matching Michelins.I’ve now covered 16000 miles from new and the rear tyres are down to 2.1mm so it really is time to replace them.

Sorry to sound a bit thick, but you mentioned they were 75% worn with 3.2mm tread depth left.... Are BMW suggesting they come with over 12mm of tread from new ?I’ve now covered 16000 miles from new and the rear tyres are down to 2.1mm so it really is time to replace them.

I’m running Goodyear EfficientGrips on a F30 335dx drive saloon. I changed from Pirelli at 32,771 miles to go from 19” to 18”, they had between about 2.5mm left on rears and 3.5mm left on the fronts.
Currently at 6.6mm fronts and 5.6mm rears after 13,645 miles on the Goodyears. So I expect the rears to last to about 35k miles and the fronts a bit more, say nearer 45k miles, if I change at between 2 to 2.5mm depth remaining.

I think they were using BMW’s tread limit rather than the legal limit.I think doing 16k miles and having 3.2mm left is pretty good it's a powerful car with a rwd bias, they will come with around 7mm I would have thought so they will be good for another 5k before they hit 2mm which is where I'd look to change them.
My old X3M did it's rears to the wear markers in less than 10k now that was disappointing

Ah I see still not that bad, I have found Michelin to be better than the others for tyre life maybe try and set of PS4S? I've had 20k out of MPSS and PS4S on M3/M5's it was only the X3M that was dreadful on tyres, I wonder what my Pirelli PZ4 on the 730d are at I've done 10k on them, I'll have a check.
edited to add 5.8mm (ish) after 10k that's not bad not bad at all

I think they were using BMW’s tread limit rather than the legal limit.Minus legal limit of 1.6mm, leaves 6.4mm of usable tread.
at 3.2mm of tread left that is 3/4 of the usable tread worn (1.6mm legal limit & 1.6mm usable tread left)
