Large SUV £15K to spend
Discussion
Currently looking to spend £15K or there abouts on a large SUV type vehicle. I need boot space accommodate a dog and the paraphernalia that two adults and two kids require, for camping holidays, etc.
I have taken a shine to the BMW X5 40d. This one in particular.

Any opinion on whether the X5's of this era are a good buy? As far as I can see, it has everything I need in my next car, just don't want to get caught out by any pit falls. I've spent a good amount of time online reading up on them, but have encountered conflicting information.
If you were in my shoes, where would you put your money?

They are not bad - timing chain/tensioner is a bit of a risk, might want replacing at 100-150k. Then there is the usual diesel stuff - DPF, EGR, etc. They have a lifespan of 250,000 - 300,000 miles, as long as you replace the oil when it asks (or ideally more frequently, like every 8000 miles) and use the car correctly, i.e. not short journeys. Porsche Cayenne 958 ? If you were in my shoes, where would you put your money?
Just comes into budget 2010 onwards. Uses the TD V6 from the Touareg and lots of other parts from VW group. Nicer interior than the X5.
