I have to refuel several of the company's vehicles using a Fuel Card. Is it the done thing to use my personal Nectar Card on the transaction? There's 6 vehicles - we fill up about once every 10 days, about £100 per vehicle so the points would soon add up. Should I just take the points as a "perk" and say nothing? Not take them? Or ask the boss if they want the points on their card?

I would ask first, wouldn’t want it coming back on you

Ask.
(You aren't paying anything towards it)

I guess I’d ask, but it’s no different to when I had a fuel card for my personal car and swiping the Clubcard 3 times a week.

I forget the detail as it’s a while ago but I used to regularly and frequently put £500 of diesel in a company HGV, racking up more Nectar points in a week than some people do in a year.
Bear in mind Nectar points do have a monetary value and can be used to offset the cost of purchases, there are salary/PAYE/tax implications as it can be classed as a benefit.
Like I said, I can’t remember the exact details and I don’t work in payroll.

Some fuel cards won't let you collect nectar points on the transactions, it all depends on the card provider. Try it first and see if it works before you get too excited.

Check with your employer. Mine has specific rules saying you can't benefit personally from company transactions in terms of reward points etc.

Company I worked for didn't have an issue until some people started taking rhe piss and going out of their way to use BP and as they were most expensive fuel they stopped it completely.

It's called gaining a pecuniary advantage and can be illegal...

Ours too, along the lines of “Staff must not personally gain from the purchase of items intended for the business. i.e. loyalty points/incentives etc.”

Alongside the potential tax implications, staff were driving further afield to purchase petrol from more expensive garages which offered personal rewards.

Sure we had some spat at work over it

If they do say no, I’ guess you could pop to customer services with the receipt and have them manually added

No different from collecting points on business travel (credit card points / airmiles / hotel points / nectar for train bookings / etc...). Most businesses just accept that this is a perk for employees and Ive never come across a professional organisation that has any issue with that.

Id be screwed if so, I've had personal holidays paid for in full through leverage of points collected from work use across airmiles / avios / HHonors / etc. for at least the past 6yrs

Audit will (or should) chuck a wobble.

Whomever or whatever your audit process is will tell you whether or not you have to worry.....in that do you have an audit process?

Used to collect them with bp when filling up.
The company put a stop to it due to the tax implications.
Disciplinary offence if you ignores that request.

This. Because they have monetary value, they are benefit in kind, and should be declared on a tax return.

In the real world, however, “don’t take the piss” tends to apply. Doing my own vehicle I’d just take the points, doing the whole company, I’d ask, but expect the gaffer to produce his card and tell you to use it. In the same way company travel departments tend to use their air miles number on all bookings…
My Chartered Accountants told me there were no tax implications with reward cards.

This was a few years ago so perhaps things have changed?

A similar previous PH thread (air miles) decided that there was no liability.

I'd make sure that I use a credit card that gave decent cashback too: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/bes...

Yup I use cash back credit cards that and Quidco on work travel, made a reasonable amount (still a lot less than if I asked for pay on personal time used for travel)

Just collect them all. Who cares it’s just a perk. Don’t ask just do it. Who’s gonna know you actually collect the points?

Bearing in mind it’s all done electronically there’ll be a record of it.
The clincher is whether someone has reason to go looking…
