My wife has been told by BMW her car needs a 2nd service at ~£650.

From what I can see it is only due brake fluid. Am I correct? I figure main serve due Jan 23?

Is there a reason brake fluid hasn’t been done before?

The car is with Lex so does anyone know any “approved” service locations for Lex (looked at contract and this is what it says), or do we need to go to BMW?

If it’s a LEX lease car just ring them and tell them and they will sort it .. and don’t worry

We used to get them collected from home and returned

Lex won’t necessarily take the vehicle to BMW we had a Merc where they took it to Halfords for a service!

If you are paying then all it needs at the moment is a brake fluid change which is due, with an MOT due in June from what I can see and a service by 1/23 or in 6k which is the max 2 years since the last service

First brake fluid is due at 3 years ( from date of production not registration ) then every two years after that

Thanks. The car is on a self maintained lease. It's due back early June, which is why I'd rather not get stung for £650 now. Annoyingly it picked up some bumper damage last week, so I'm going to ask in another thread if it's worth fixing, or possibly taking a charge on return.

All it’s due is a brake fluid and unless you do more than 6k between now and end of lease that’s all you’ll needy pay for

Brake fluid change is less than £100 even at main dealers, less elsewhere, many independents can update/reset the idrive with service records

I’ve used indies for brake fluid/brakes etc and they reset the idrive when they do it, can be much cheaper than main dealer

Re the bumper, I’ve had smart repairs done for less than £100 and recently had a full body off full respray of my front bumper on my Z4 for just over £200 as examples

It needs the brake fluid changing. That will not cost £650 even at main dealer prices.

Thanks again. ATS are just up the road from me and charge £41, so hopefully I'll be able to take it there.

I posted the damage here in the general leasing thread.

If you take it to ATS then check before hand that they can reset the Brake Service indicator in the car.
(I would them to be able to).

My wife phoned BMW and they checked the reg and came back with that, which I think is 2nd service. A few years ago she owned a 1 series. She took it for a service after being quoted ~£150 over the phone. When she turned up they told her it would be tickling £400. She phoned me distraught. In the end she let them do it and they knocked a bit off. I had a Z4 (with service package) previously and had brake pads done at an independent for 1/3 the cost BMW quoted me. Sadly I couldn't recall the name of the garage or we would have taken it there, but the BMW phone quote seemed reasonable, plus she had work commitments and had left the service to the last minute, so it needed doing.

I think my point is the person you speak to when you call BMW usually talks bo%%ocks.

I’d take it to the local main dealer. They’ll read the key and tell you it needs a brake fluid change.

My last one on a 335D, was £63 (£42 fluid service, £21 to update the idrive)

Take it to the dealer and get the key read that tell you what is needed OR interrogate the I drive.

Go on line bmwservice it will allow you to select dealerships and give you prices for jobs
