Transit sliding door wide opening/bigger gap

On a Transit Custom van, is there a mechanism for the sliding side door to swing out further . I need to carry stuff on the side and they would block the sliding door opening. Still need the door though. Need clearance of 5" or so.
Could they be hinged from the front instead of sliding?
