Engine Check Light

Something strange happened today while driving back from Stratford upon Avon down the M40.

I just happened to glance down and noticed a very feint engine light illuminated. I've never seen it before and thought it odd. The light slowly faded as if on a dimmer switch and then went out.

The car behaved normally, no strange noises etc. and for the rest of the journey it did not come back on.

When I got home I switched the engine off and then turned the ignition on to make sure the dash lights were all present and correct and as you can see from the below photograph the engine light is as bright as the others.



I then started the engine and all went out, as normal. See below.



I will get it checked out soon as I also have a slight near side noise from what I think is the rear wheel bearing on its way out. However, just wondered if anyone else has experienced similar and what it may be?

Not quite, but somewhat similar: sometimes, maybe I've seen it 4-5 times in my 2.5 years of ownership, when I unlock the car and then just sit in it because I'm on my phone or whatever other reason and just wait to start it, I think I saw the engine light blinking for a split second. I also think I saw it when I turn the engine off and wait in the car for again whatever reason.

It never bothered me honestly.
