Evening experts,

I’ve recently bought a new Aston Martin Vantage in a rather lovely flagplutz blue with the lightweight wheel option in matte anthracite as below

The wheels look great although as it has steel brakes, there is a lot of brake dust build-up as expected. They clean really well using an iron & fallout cleaner but when they’re clean the heavily textured paint looks rather streaky and flat. I thought about waxing / sealing them and bought some Angelwax bilberry wheel sealer but the finish is so rough, it just wouldn’t buff in… the paint finish is intentionally textured especially in the barrel of the wheel, like a medium wet&dry sand paper.

So, I’m looking for something that will seal the wheels whilst giving them a nice uniform ‘wet’ satin look to bring out some light-&-shade contrast to the spokes, any ideas guys thumbup

Most of the big players sell a decent ceramic coating.
I would try this, all their products are quality.

I’d take the wheels off, give them a thorough clean, clay bar and polish and seal with Gtechniq C5. I did my 911 wheels with it a couple of years ago and they’re so easy to clean still. I top up the ceramic coating a few times a year with something like Garage Therapy’s Cigma.

You'll find because the finish is satin and textured no coating will make them gloss, or indeed last very long.

The only way would be to give them to a wheel refurb company local to you and get them to refinish the wheels with a gloss lacquer.

Cheers,

Chris

p.s looks mega in the blue!

Thanks guys, that’s really helpful.

A clay bar just wouldn’t touch it, the texture on the surface is just too course but I did take them off and give them a proper clean. It’s not a gloss finish, more of a ‘wet look’ finish, and so far the best result is using Gtechniq C2 Liquid Crystal wiped on and buffed off a few times.

Cheers
