Talk me out of buying a Discovery. No, really

Yes I know the horror stories. Yes I know they're too big, too heavy and too antisocial. Yes I agree a car of this capability is overkill for many - me included.
But there's something about that big old bus that keeps me wanting one. So much so that I'm seriously considering ditching both my F31 330d Touring and my 981 Cayman and spending the ££ on a new Disco.
I know it doesn't make sense but my heart is in danger of winning the battle with my head. Please someone tell me I'm being an idiot so I can forget this ludicrous idea and move on.

Even if you can get past the stories of horrific unreliability, it's the ugliest, most ill-proportioned of all the full-size SUVs - everyone will assume you got it on the cheap or you're mental as why would you knowingly choose to sit in something that looks like that otherwise?

Dont Do it!
You will hate the comfort, the capability, the space, the tech, the feeling you could go anywhere you want in it, the air suspension, towing ability, the reliability that's only an issue on the internet(****some are crap**** not all), the view out and the wading depth!

Don't do it.
(Get a new Defender instead).
I've had a brand new Disco 5 with all the toys. It was a very good car and great for everything (but I owned it a year so can't comment on longer reliability), I've since driven a new 110 and would definitely choose that now. The refinement and comfort are similar, but I prefer the looks and overall product of the Defender.

Good question, difficult to answer. If I'm really honest, I think it's the security it offers - or seems to offer. The absolute all weather, go anywhere, do anything-ness of it. The refinement and long journey ability is also a massive pull - we mostly holiday in the UK and it's always a long drive to get to where we're going. The 330d is brilliant but it's not what I'd call relaxing, and it's getting to the age where it feels its best years are behind it. In fairness, I'm also of that age and a comfy, wafty barge does appeal.
No direct experience, but a mate just came out of a 20 plate HSE model and declared it a complete POS.
In and out of the main dealer constantly, niggly issues that they could never get right.
Best issue was that the infotainment system wouldn't work on a Saturday.
Sold it for £15k profit so not all bad.
