Another nasty piece of work locked up.

Certainly seems like the sort of offence that should lead to custody but if it is a first offence a suspended sentence might have been appropriate?
I wonder if some of the letters were to be sent to other people? Alan Sugar can afford to look after himself, some other people less so, and it doesn't sound as if he was in fact 'in fear of violence' so perhaps there are other aggravating factors.

If you were to receive something like that you really wouldn't know if the person was a fantasist or genuinely crazy enough to just flip one day and actually travel and try it out. Being a multi-millionaire can buy you some security, but for somebody targeted you still wouldn't really have peace of mind.

Given the police traced him to his home using DNA and fingerprints found on the letters, I assume this wasn't his first offence. The length of the sentence (which does seem long) must also be in part because he has never admitted guilt or shown remorse, and failed to turn up at court. Agree. You wouldn't know if the guy was really coming for you so a prison sentence seems totally appropriate.https://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/breaki...

Is prison the best way to deal with him? We can lock him up (who could probably have been contained another way), yet don’t lock up burgling scumbags who live a life of crime with hundreds of offences?
He's been doing it for years... I think a stern talking to has already been tried. Cleary nuts, and his behaviour once confronted has undoubtedly contributed to sentencing.
amongst the vile comments he felt the need in one of the letters to reject claims of antisemitism in the Labour Party.
I'm going to go out on a limb and offer conjecture that he'd describe himself as hard left.
