Virgin Broadband cancelled. Getting rid of cabling
Discussion
We've been with Virgin Media ever since the NTL days, but after I missed our renewal date and paid an increased rate I've binned them as I was fed up with repeatedly being quoted over 50% more as a long-term customer than they were advertising as a new customer despite no connection and equipment costs. I went with BT, making the Virgin router, TIVO box and cabling redundant. I know that I have to return the router and TIVO box to Virgin if they request it, but I've searched my contract and the internet without finding anything on the cabling after disconnection. I'm so fed up with Virgin, not only because of their quotes but also because they cut me off a week earlier than agreed in writing and took a DD for the month after disconnection, adding insult to injury to insult, that I want to get rid of the part of their cabling that I find unsightly, effectively everything beyond the end of the input cable.
Can someone please help by explaining where I stand with the external cabling. Can I just tidy it all up, cut out everything unsightly that I don't want and return it to Virgin, or do I have to live with the installation as it is?

Thanks, both of you.
FWIW we're happy enough with Freeview, seeing no need for such packages as BT Sport, and have a smart TV that has easy access to iPlayer, catch up and other apps. Virgin did have more channels, only the +1 hr being useful for us, so we decided to go for broadband & phone only and get a Freeview recorder. Despite going for one of the better but more expensive recorders, we should recoup its cost in under 6 months.

Good luck getting Virgin to collect your Tivo box, router etc, I have asked them more than twice and they say they will send me a box and label to put it in and they never do, it's been in an under stairs cupboard for years now, will probably end up in the bin as i'm sure it's old tech at this point.

My mother and father-in-law binned off Virgin for the TV and switched to Sky Glass a couple of months ago. I noticed when I was round there last weekend that the TiVo box was still sat on the side waiting to be collected. I asked them about it and like you, they said Virgin had said they will send a box to they can return it. I don’t think they will though.I'm with Virgin Media for Broadband and have been since the NTL days as I have no other option if I want fast internet, but I binned their TV service as I don't watch TV at all. They didn't want the Tivo box back, they suggested I recycle it. Maybe I should fish out the hard disk before I do? But I'm totally fed up with the constant outages. 3 months ago they replaced my faulty Superhub with a Hub 3 and things have become even worse. My wifi range is decimated and the software isn't nearly as configurable. Openreach came round the other day checking all the access point covers as a prelude to installing their own fibre so there should be FTTP within the next 6-12 months. However I will be looking to sell the house by then, so I guess I'll just have to stick with VM until then.

All ISP supplied routers are garbage, get a mesh wifi system and stick the hub in bridge/modem mode. I had to do the same, working for an ISP myself I know how s
t these routers are as they are tied to whatever vendor of equipment they use in the street units.Janesy B said:

Try disabling the Smart WiFi features - they upgraded my hub, and even devices in a 5m clear line-of-sight were dropping off the network. Once that was done, and the channels hard set, its been stable.I'm on the point of switching though, as there's better value elsewhere - where there will hopefully be something resembling customer service as well..
