Quite the achievement for the provinces, what Simon Rogan and the team have created over the years has been nothing short of amazing.
Not to do our beautiful county down but creating something on par with the best in the world up here takes something special.
If you haven’t tried it, make a weekend of it-our roads aren’t too bad either!

GF took me there for my 50th. It was very good, not least because I was able to have my first proper shower in months! Not to do our beautiful county down but creating something on par with the best in the world up here takes something special.

Lovely little video of the moment Simon was surprised with the chef's apron, it was a set up as he had no idea it was to be awarded.

Booked a while back for when we are down for a weekend at Cartmel races in August, always planned to visit but never got round to it. Looking forward to it and great achievement for their team on the 3rd star being awarded. Well we were going, booked quite a while back, had a call today they can’t accommodate the booking on Sunday and Monday in August as they are now closing those days due to staff shortages.

That’s poor. Tried to get in for the wife’s birthday in April but nothing. It’s been a couple of years since we went but it was never hard to get in before.Well we were going, booked quite a while back, had a call today they can’t accommodate the booking on Sunday and Monday in August as they are now closing those days due to staff shortages.
I went a couple of years ago for lunch with the wife.
A set lunch of 4 (very, very small) courses and a glass of wine each - £165!
It was all very nice and artistically presented with a few tiny mushrooms and some flower petals stewn around and a bit of green dog sick looking foam but we were both starving afterwards and had to grab a pasty on the way home. There were some crashing bores in the room and a very middle aged guy on the next table with a dolled up Gucci adorned blonde unfeasibly younger than him who kept glancing over to see if we had noticed her - it seems to be a place which is visited by some to be able to tell folk you've been as much as it is to experience the food.
We are both foodies but this sort of thing really doesn't do it for us; we prefer substance over art on the plate. Each to their own though I guess and I can see the attraction for some.
By way of contrast there's a fantastic French restaurant called Bouchon in Hexham - we had a superb lunch there last Saturday which was fuss free, simple, and beautifully cooked - we both came out more than satisfied. With a half bottle of wine it was just under £70.

Just had a look at the Bouchon menu, looks great value for what I would think of as classic French styled cooking. Just the sort of place we would go in on holiday in France.A set lunch of 4 (very, very small) courses and a glass of wine each - £165!

Thread resurrection!
Just about to check out, having eaten in L'Enclume last night.
It really was superb food and service. Very relaxed atmosphere.
3* well deserved.
What really amazed me is how young the kitchen staff are. I don't think a single chef in the kitchen looked over 25, most looking younger than that too. Simon clearly does a great job of training them up.
