Really feel for them. Imagine waiting 12+ months, and then this.

There was a similar problem with 991.2 cars I think bound for South America….think they re-built them.

US has been getting a lot more cars than the UK for the last year….dealer forecourts over there seem to have a decent amount of cars as they always do. US got record number of cars last year…we got less than we did pre-Covid and Porsche made a record number of cars. The UK’s supply problems are Porsche’s decision not a lack of chips, they are prioritising other markets like the US.

Would imagine this is going to have a knock on effect to UK supply now as the rebuilds get prioritorised

Yes several GT2RS's were lost and replaced. South American market IIRC they had to reopen the production line to do it.

It's an interesting decision they need to make. As it stands, they've got 1,100 pissed off customers, if they bounce other cars to rebuild these, I think it's reasonable to assume that they'll end up with 2,200 pissed off customers.

Whatever the decision is, I wouldn't like to be the one having to make it!

Maybe a good number of these cars will be fine. It’s a bloody big vessel.

With nobody on board to control the fire, it could be a total write off. That would be £200M insurance claim.

Certainly a write off. The interesting question is whether they have to add additional fire suppression on the other ships as this appears to have some EVs on fire which require special equipment to extinguish. This would cause big delays.

Dealers have been told that affected customers will get priority.

There almost no inventory of 911s in North America and new customers were already being told 1-2 years.

You extinguish EV's by dropping them in a skip full of water - and I'm not kidding!

The fire appears to have fully engulfed the cargo decks so yes everything on board will be a write off. There will be some marine insurers and re-insurers that are not having a good week because of this. Hopefully the salvors will be able to tow it back to port in Europe without it sinking en-route.

US Journalist Matt Farah had a car on the ship, he's been told they are building him a new car as they are for everyone else.

The ship has now sunk. It's going to be a long wait if your car was on it for a replacement. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-60579640
