I’m looking to buy a PS5 from a private seller as there is not stock anywhere and when there is it’s gone in minutes.

Anyone bought one in a similar way ?

Is there a way of knowing if the console is genuine eg a QR code or bar code I can scan etc

And if I do buy it and it needs repairing down the line will
I be stuffed ?

Feel like a Wally asking these questions but I don’t want to get scammed and wouldn’t normally buy something this way

Cheers

I bought one off Facebook, turned out the seller lived round the corner. Even sent me a copy of the Amazon receipt. No issues but I guess it depends on the seller.

How did you check it was a genuine console before handing over the cash ?

Glue a white A4 folder round an xbox one and it is impossible to tell.

I searched PS5 Media on Ebay but ranked the search based on locality to me.

Found one 15 miles away, saw the guy had good feedback. Bought it. Turned up at his house, had a nice long friendly chat. He fwd'd me the sales invoice from Smyths toys and I took it away. It all felt good and having ebay feedback and a track record helped.

On gumtree I'd be looking to really convince myself the buyer is legit first. You buy "people" rather than product so to speak when it comes to those situations.

If you are really bothered, Open it up and set it up in the livingroom of the person you are buying it from.

Aren't any of the retail sellers still doing the "put your name down for one" ? GAME used to.

If not, go into your local GAME and get friendly with the staff and find out what days they normally drop delivery. I was lucky months ago and popped into GAME on a Friday lunchtime to put my name down and find out what the current status was. I didn't know that my local store normally got deliveries on a Thursday night....he had one available there and then to buy...so I did.

It's mad that there is still a shortage of these, can't believe it's gone on for so long. The problem now is that good games are actually starting to come out, so all the people who weren't so bothered about them before are now starting to want one too.

Isn't there a stockchecking site you can sign up to and they let you know when they go live? Quite a few on here have obtained one through that method, give it a few hours and I'm sure someone will come along and inform you of the site.

A genuine console, as opposed to what?

The guy let me in his house, he asked if I wanted to open the box beforehand, he wouldn't accept cash only bank transfer and I told him I trusted him because if there were any problems I knew where he lived.
