It's Going To Be Carnage?
Discussion
So the weather forecast for tomorrow suggests we will be taking our life in to our hands stepping out the front door. Luckily I only have a 15 minute walk to my shop, but will still have to face 70mph+ winds & driving rain - perversely quite looking forward to watching the chaos unfold through the window on to Finchley Road.
I am assuming many people will be working from home, as many might be able to get to work . . . but a lottery whether your chosen method of transport will still be functioning later in the day.
What plans have peeps made for tomorrow - day off?

I have a s
t job so get up just before 6, drive immediately in to work for 6.30ish (dodging fallen trees as I go).
Hide, drink coffee and survey the carnage whilst doing minimal actual work. Then come home again as soon as possible whilst dodging the fallen people and lorries as I go.
Then take the cat to the vet, and then drive 10 miels to pick up the toddler from his grandparents.

My work is governed by the weather and I have to say the weather forecasts are pretty unreliable. I think there is a backlash since the Michael Fish saga so they just over egg it sometimes. I'm not doubting the prediction but it's not the first time I've run around like a headless chicken only to find they have got it wrong.
The cynic in me thinks its just another excuse to close everything down. Not to say there isn't going to be some bad weather, but the wholesale panic feels like something that would not have happened even ten years ago. The trains giving up, yes. But all the breathless media reports and "schools closed, shops closed, everything close" not so much.

I am in reading on business, having to catch a peak time train out of London into Euston. All prayers appreciated.
Already got emails from the train companies, 50mph speed limits and less trains. It's half term too.
Oh the joy.

My daughter is flying back to Belfast from Exeter at 13.30 tomorrow. Or was.
British Airways cancelled the flight this afternoon. Not even waiting to see if forecast carnage actually materialises.
The next flight is on Sunday.
Ridiculous.

Sorry - probably not helping

Forecast doesn't look that bad for Belfast (except around midday with 40mph gusts). I guess it's easier for everyone to plan ahead - rather than to move or cancel a flight last minute.British Airways cancelled the flight this afternoon. Not even waiting to see if forecast carnage actually materialises.
Just checked Lonodon and it's in the 60s. Do you think they have exaggerated this?

It's bad weather and there will be problems, but not unique. I really hate the hysteria that accompanies everything in the UK.
Compared to other countries our weather is rarely life threatening.TV News always big up these normal and routine incidents of weather, especially if SE England is affected.

Its not ridiculous, its really not worth the risk to even think about flying in these conditions. British Airways cancelled the flight this afternoon. Not even waiting to see if forecast carnage actually materialises.

We have all come to expect modern passenger aircraft to fly no matter what but the reality is the wind speeds we are expecting in the next 24 hours are very serious for any aircraft let alone something small ish doing a short hop from Belfast to Exeter.
Also, looking at the forecast Sunday is not looking promising FYI.
