Any advice appreciated.

I’m going to Liverpool from Salisbury next week. I can go via Ionity 350KW chargers at Chippenham and then M4, M5, M6, M62 or A34, M40, M42, M6 etc.

I know some 100KW charges only charge at 50KW (Stafford).

My standard range is 220 miles on a single battery Taycan 4S.

Well if you're not going to use Zap-Map, get WattsUp.

And look it up.

Ignore the Gridserve chargers that are at MSAs because most of them don’t have the grid capacity for the 120kW claimed. Look for IONITY, MFG EV Power, BP Pulse etc.

Not to just suggest another app but ABRP is really good for journey planning - you can favour certain charging networks over others etc.

Thanks I’ll check it out. It’s frustrating to get a 50KW charge at a 100KW charger!

The point is that only you know your preferences (Ionity price or not, drive off the motorway or not, stop for a coffee or not, arrive with only 1 mile range or not, have one two three or four backup plans, only go to multiple charger sites) so I can't really advise you in any sensible way other than to say use one of the good apps and make a choice.

With a Taycan you should get closer to advertised speed at Gridserve.

The people complaining they only get around 50kW on a “120kW charger” need to realise these are 150A chargers and hence voltage is critical to the actual speed you get.

Lots of people get less than that though at a lot of their sites - they’ve flung some new equipment in on some pretty awful supplies.

Not sure why you wouldn’t just rule them out if charging speed was important.

Agree the connections seem poor as is the firmware delay
Preventing twin charging (first reason is probably why)

Be interesting to actually see what a Taycan owners gets though yeah…

EDIT: have you got 50kW from the 100kW chargers (throws me as Gridserve are 120kW)

That’s a great question and a good poin worth clarifying . We got 50KW at Stafford Gridserve. However this was with my wife’s Mercedes’ EQC.

The only charger we have used outside of home was Ionity Chippenham which gave us a max 225KW

The "only getting 50kW" could be that the charger is only a 500V one, in which case the Taycan would be max 50kW unless it has the 150kW upgrade. And the charger would need to be pretty high current to hit 150kW at 400-500V.

I've also seen on an etron GT charging at 500V on an 850V charger. Think this was an issue with the charger.

.
Nope the Terra ABB 124 are either 150A or 200A up to 910V output voltage through CCS. CHAdeMO are 500V max.

Could be a handshake error and 400V without the 150kW upgrade… but I doubt that’s the bottleneck

This is what I've seen happen on an etron GT before where something decided to do a "500V" charge rather than an "800V" one.

Could also be that the charger has been turned down as the supply is not sufficient for full power, but they really shouldn't be advertising it as 150kW or whatever if that's the case.

I can see a lot of issues going forward with chargers not giving the power people expect and "false advertising". Usage metering will probably need to be regulated at some point too. Petrol pumps are checked regularly but I've never heard of public chargers being checked for metering accuracy...
