Lambo launches uprated Gallardo

Tweaked model offers more track-oriented features

The limited edition Lamborghini Gallardo Special Edition (SE) will be available in the UK from next month. Just 250 units will be built worldwide.

Based on the standard four-wheel drive Gallardo, the SE model is a more track-oriented car, with stiffened suspension, shorter gear ratios and more power. The uprated 5-litre engine rockets the car to 62mph in four seconds and an increased top speed of 197mph -- five mph faster than standard.

Further modifications include more direct and precise steering to further improve handling. The 19-inch, specially designed Callisto rims come with stickier Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyres.

It looks different too with six exclusive colour options: two grey shades as well as white, yellow, orange and green, all coupled with Nero Noctis black on the transparent engine cover, roof, front and rear spoiler as well as the side mirrors. Grey or yellow brake callipers are offered and the rear lights are slightly tinted.

The interior echoes the exterior, with the partially perforated handcrafted leather trim and stitching matching the main body colour. Additional internal features include the rear-view camera which, in conjunction with the built-in multi-media screen, facilitates parking. The Lamborghini shield is embossed on the headrests, the Lamborghini script is incorporated into the dashboard and, exclusively to the Gallardo SE, the vehicle identification number is embossed on a further shield.

A long list of standard equipment includes an exclusive car cover, and a list of further optional equipment is available including satnav, a winter package and lifting system.

The price is £134,000, a hefty £17,000 more than the standard model.

I'm sure it's a lovely little car but its just so bland.

No scissor doors, no huge rear wing...boring to look at. For 140k I would like something that would at least turn a few eyes.

If there's going to be only 250 of these worldwide, what's the chances of it appreciating...?

I know it's not going to be an F40 or anything, but it'll be nice to have a car that you won't have to bend over for when it comes to selling time.

I like it very much. Very much indeed. Still, get rid of the E-gear and put have it as a manual I say - it's not a vending machine its a supercar - you shouldn't be pushing buttons to drive the bloody thing.

(I'll take that back if E-gears a paddle shifter - though its no rowboat either, to my knowledge).

Rather have a mid 80's countach - more flamboyant, which is how I like my supercars.

I thought for a second they had forgot to put a gear lever in there.

Dunno about pounds, but over here a Murcie costs roughly $600,000AUD, and a gallardo a rather more sane (comparitively speaking, of course) $400,000AUD. And what's this about a 'last hurrah' Murcie? Mmmmm, 650bhp.
