Red light camera tolerance

Is there a couple of seconds tolerance with red light cameras ?
Never ran one but just wanted to know. As there are tolerances with traditional yellow Gatso speed cameras upto 34mph

Nope. The amber light is your “tolerance”. If you enter the junction whilst the light is red it’ll nab you.

I believe it's one second.

Doesn't sound much but a car going 40 mph will cover 20 yards in that time, which is about the length of four cars parked nose to tail.

There is a tolerance. It's 1-2 seconds I believe. I've seen vehicles pass the sensors on red and not get flashed. A good one for this is Nuthall roundabout in Nottingham. That's what I base that on, anyway.

A 30mph speed camera won’t flash to 31 mph though so there is a tolerance

The tolerance for speed cameras is 10% +2mph.
After that, you get a ticket.
30, 40, 50, 60 and 70.
The same tolerance.

It is impossible for any system of this kind to operate with "zero tolerance". The factors in play include the length of the vehicle in front of the driver (car bonnet), whether the vehicle is towing a trailer, whether there is a red light on the far side of the junction (or only at the stop line so will go out of the driver's sight before he gets there) etc.

Once there has to be some tolerance the question simply becomes how much tolerance - which is where this topic began.

Does anybody know if you get caught if you stop beyond the red light I have done this in London sometimes and expected some smoke but nothing happened

The 10%+2 is the speed they start giving out tickets, not the speed you can drive without a ticket. I got a nip for 57 in a 50.
