Internet connection help!

ISP help centre is useless so why not try PH?
For the last week or so I've been unable to load certain sites on wifi - this on both android phone and laptop, across multiple different search engines. Mrs 2gins is annoyed that we can't get facebook, I'm annoyed that I can't get on E90post as I need to follow a how to re. a poorly 530i. The pages just time out with the 'paerhaps the site in unavailable, or your settings are borked... try again later...' message.
I've done all this
Windows is up to date
Cleared history & cache
Removed ad blockers & other add-ons
Updated browsers
Re-installed browsers
Reset router
Updated DNS settings with 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4
I'm not great with computers. Hate the damn things really.
Grateful for any help from PH technical support!

Can you connect a computer / laptop directly to the router with a network cable? If so and everything is working fine then it would suggest a wi-fi rather than general connection issue.
If that is the case then the try forcing the router to use a manually selected channel as from my experience most routers tend to auto select the same one and this can cause major slowdowns if there are lots of other networks on the same channel near by.

I’d guess a dns issue.
From a cmd window, do a nslookup on the sites that are causing issues and report back?
A packet capture (e.g. using wireshark) would be very useful to debug.

If you can capture it, I’m happy to give it the once over.
I’d filter for “dns” and see if your troublesome sites are resolving.

Yes, mobile data works fine.
It's been going on more than 48 hrs so I don't think it's storm related.
ISP is Vodafone so it's not some tin-pot outfit run from some spotty teenager's bedroom.
ETA what I can say is the problem seems to be confined to message boards and other social media. Can't get on bimmerforums, TTforum, Twitter, reddit, pinterest. Instagram looks OK, but falls over at the cookie settings window - it doesn't fail to load, just recycles the cookie selector. I can get on Mumsnet though!
